Fallout New Vegas: NCR Veteran Ranger Finished! pg 8

the font was major snafu i think

I know it's a week after Halloween, but here's my take on the costume. Not the best, but I still think it came out pretty well, considering it's my first time working on anything like this.

you've got half a prop there m'laddie,
i would suggest you take some wash to the helmet and try to dirt it up, get black paint into the cracks and deep areas and then wipe the extra off with a towel or something, make it look aged and realistic.
right now you've got a flat silver color to the whole thing, and any detail you've worked into the actual shape of the prop is invisible till you 'antique' it like i said

Are you working on mass producing them and making kits? Or did that fall through?
Oh no! Could i have... missed out? DUH DUH DUUUUH......
i'm hoping to start up orders for that soon actually, i'll make sure i contact you about it.

I figured you would have done that along time ago. You talking about resin kit helmets? I think armors would be cool vacc-formed.

No, but you can make a cold caste plaster investment from it

i'd rather keep torso armor a little flexible, its not really a good idea for it to be solid and hard, it's already a little stiff and that prevents some movement, make it harder and you'll be walking like a tin man

The mask is nice, crisp, and symmetrical side to side. Nice coat too.

The nerf kind of blows the effect.

I have never been good with pepakura. Do you have any advice for an easy helmet i could work on to get some practice? It would really help me out.

If you've never been good with it you must have already did some easy stuff for practice.

Yes and no.. i personally have no experience with pepakura, so i was insane for trying out something wild for my first try, (so no i dont have any easy jobs to suggest for you, but i would say you can just keep redoing the same pattern over and over, you'll get better every time) i'm just really familiar with scratch build kits and the like.

as for the second comment, it depends, not all pep files are created equal, some are retardedly difficult, some, easy. i lucked out with hugh's mask, its a solid design in my opinion, but i did modify it in a few areas for my own changes.

I was thinking, solid plates attached to a vest like Mando armor. With the bomb guard separate. like real riot vests. A half inch gap between the armor would give more movement than soild foam I would think.

I wanted to share with you how it all turned out in the end, since you answered some of my questions along the way (MUCH APPRECIATED!) and had this beautiful semi-tutorial to help guide me. I think it came out pretty good :) Some stuff I want to change, but thats for another time. I hope you dont mind me posting this in your thread D:

You cant really tell from the pic, but the lights have a switch and do glow, although red is the bottom light and I have a green light on top, because I couldnt find the right LEDs anywhere. Also, I have a mini CPU fan in my mask which greatly helped me breath and cool off while walking around at the con :)

I joined just so I could make a comment on this. Very well done and I'm impressed. I know you said it took a little over a month, How many hours would you say this build took you? I'm a busy college student and I would like to attempt this for A-Kon in the summer. Oh, and I saw something about placing orders? What kind of price would you charge?

Thanks in advance.

Very nice work done by everyone! I am also going to attempt a Fallout New Vegas costume, but I want to do the NCR Ranger Patrol Armor.

PM me about it, and we can discuss,
actual sales and stuff are strictly handled in another part of the board

I sent a personal message, but I have no idea if you received it because it hasn't appeared in my sent box. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. o_O

Um...was that you in the new Nuka Break episode, Kommissar?

HAHA yeah, well no, that wasn't ME, but it WAS my armor!

i loaned it to Zack Finfrock, it took a beating, but it was not built for stunt work, so that was to be expected.
you'll also notice my armor was a little too small for the actor. so i may have to remake a lot for him in the future.
