Fallout New Vegas: NCR Veteran Ranger Finished! pg 8

Hey, just thought I'd chime in as it's good to see the project finally completed! Awesome work there! The costume is still my favourite in NV...and gotta say you did a fine job!

Really looks incredible. Any plans to do others from the game? There's plenty of material to create some more great costumes!

This is several, several piles of win.

Just, tossing that out there. Though, if you want better accuracy with the revolver (I'm not sure if you mentioned this or not, I skimmed the last few pages, is all) extend the barrel; the Ranger Sequoia is a BFR 45-70, with an Octagon barrel. They're a beauty in-game...I totally stole one just to use it too. Haha. If you can seriously accomplish getting that gun made, then...well. you've won the internet.

I posted on qckslvr546's thread too, but Im new to anything involving costumes, but will be attending a Fallout LARP soon, and have a surplus of time on my hands due to being in highschool, and thought this would be a fun project... any suggestions on where to start? Like, what foam to use, what is this "pepakura", etc?

i would suggest typing in pepakura wiki into google, and browsing the halo pepakura files and website 405th.com for some great examples of what you can do with papercraft designs ripped from games.
:)

Oh boy,
That is beyond beautiful.

I started making this costume as well and stumbled upon this while looking for pointers. I hope you don't mind if I "steal" some of your VERY hard work.

I started with the rifle, here are a few very early shots.

I'll probably cheat with the pants and duster by buying them and making them look worn. The pep file for the helmet is SO helpful. If i can't find styrene, then I might try wonderflex as a base.

Thanks again for all the tips and tricks you've posted.

Please keep us updated with any changes or upgrades you do.

YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!!

EDIT: The bullet in the first picture is an actual 50 cal casing

Hey Kommissar, awesome job at making that costume:wacko... im new at this so yeah...

Anyways, can the pep model of the helmet mentioned at page 2 be worn after the proper treatment (resin and fiberglass)? Cos im a big fan of the NCR Ranger Vets.

Thx and hats off to you.

it can be worn after just the resin treatment,
though i will remind you that i made my cardstock version just to get a feel for the shapes, and then i made a brand new "pep" from sheet styrene instead.
though i could not see why you could not just stick the styrene ontop of the cardstock as another possible option

what size tube did you use? (both the corrugated gas line and the abs tube) :)
could not tell you i'm afraid, since the tube i used i had to cut and heat shape to make bigger, because i could not find a tube big enough

Any chance you're planning on making your coat pattern available? It looks fantastic!
no, sorry, i'm not 100% happy with the cape, but i can happily tell you it's just a combination of taking my measurements and applying them into a basic "vest" that fits me well, i then used measurements of my arms to make the sleeve pattern, and attach it onto the 'vest'.
extended the bottom with panels, and added a collar i felt was appropriate.

that may sound like a "how the hell did he do that?!? that's not easy at all!" moment, but i want to point you in the direction of a book that pretty much covers fantastically detailed steps and methods on how to make a perfectly fitting vest, how to make sleeves and ton of other techniques i never actually used.
from my scarecrow costume to my NCR ranger coat, i've used techniques taught to me using this book.
Costume Technicians Handbook
and the book is written well enough that you really can go step by step and make almost anything you want.

though for a duster coat i would encourage you to add some extra space to some of your measurements, as otherwise it may be a little tight
(i personally made two copies of the coat, one a sort of mirror image of the other, and put it inside the first, sewing them together, to get them extra thick and heavy, which honestly makes it feel like a real rugged coat, and also feels like quite a bad ass)

Hey Kommissar, I'm back with more question this time I read a lot of the forum ,so hopefully you haven't already answered them already like my previous question. I'm getting to the point where I can start to make a thread on here and follow you in your footsteps.
Anyway, What kind of toy gun did you us? Like can you give me a link or the brand I know you didn't really say earlier.

When you were making your Ammo belt, it looks like those are 220 rifle shell? I know what kind of material you used normal Navy belt material with the buckle with a clip but what you use to lace the shells in to the belt? and how?

dunno about the shells i just had a few ammo belts laying around so i broke off a few links.
i just bent the links around bit and used abit of ingenuity, i'm sure you'll be able to figure something that works :)

toy gun? it's actually an airsoft revolver, and it's unmodified. it's also inaccurate, it should be a single action army cavalry "long barrel" design.
