What's going on, ladies and gentlemen?
I'm new in The RPF, and a noob at cosplaying (yeah). Well, a couple years ago I've decided to build my own costume of a NCR Veteran Ranger from the videogame Fallout: New Vegas, but I had absolutely NO IDEA from how to make it, so I tried to build it, watched LOTS of tutorials and read several cosplaying threads.
It took LOTS of work and time, I took about a entire year to make it since it was my first costume so I decided to go slowly, and paying attention to details.
In this thread I'll show you guys my progress, the costume still not complete, there's only one thing remaining: A duster coat. I'm brazilian, so in Brazil is impossible to find a duster coat for sale since it's a warm country, I'm trying to find one on eBay but I can't find the right one.
So, here's the steps:
1 - I decided to make the helmet basically from cardboard, since it's a really cheap material and easy to work with. So I printed the pepakura files and glued it to carboard, cutted it out. (But, why didn't I just built the helmet from pepakura, like everyone did? I'll tell you in a minute.)

2 - Raw helmet part done!

3 - Raw mask part done!
;D

4 -So then I decided to paper maché the helmet, and put some plaster on the edges (don't blame me, I know it sucked, but it was essential for the build, as you'll see next)

5 - After doing that, I painted the helmet and glued the lenses, as you can see, the result is not that good, so I decided to try to make it more realistic.

6 - So I RIPPED the respirator off and built a new one, from carboard too, but with a thinner one, so it looks better.

7 - Then I took all the previous paint off and started bondoing the helmet (it was already hard [That's What She Said] due to the papier maché, so I didn't need to apply resin and fiberglass, these materials are SUPER HARD to find in Brazil, and it costs basically your SOUL.)
After bondoing, I started sanding... man... I HATE sanding, my wrists suffered so much that I took about 5 days for it to stop paining.

8 - After that awful sanding step, I painted the helmet black and made the side filter (But, Ranger1403, why don't you just paint it like metal? Well, my friend, I decided to make it look more realistic, and the standard police equipments are usually black, that's why.)

9 - After painting, I've put lights on the side and on the eyes, and I've put a small computer fan inside the helmet, so my head keeps cool and the eyes won't fog up on me (Its a really good sensation while wearing, with that air on your face). The eye lights are powered with 2 AAA batteries, the computer fan is powered with a 9 volt battery and the side rig is powered with 3 AAA batteries. (Yay, LOTS of batteries!)

10 - After that, I've done some weathering with silver acrylic paint on the edges, and painted the number 14 on the side

NOW, THE CHEST PIECE
1 - The chest piece was tough, not as tough as the helmet, but it was tough. I've decided to use EVA foam for it, but I've used a thin foam because of the flexibility, and the armor don't look that bulky

2 - After drawing and cutting the parts, I've glued all of them in a new foam sheet, and cut it all out. Then I've started painting with a dark grey acrylic paint.

3 - Aaaaaand after the paint, I've done some raw scratch marks and claw marks in the chest piece.

4 - After that, I've done some weathering with black, silver and white acrylic paint, and painted the "LAPD RIOT", the fist drawing and the numbers "03".

5 - I've done the arm guards and the gloves from real metal, but I forgot to take pictures of the progress ¬¬ (dumb me)
SO THEN, this is the final look! (Yeah, that's why my username is Ranger1403 :]] )

There's some things to be done yet, but this is the progress so far, thank you so much for reading this thread, and please, if you like it, don't forget to comment about it, it look a lot of work for me to write all of this, and I've posted another thread before, it got 200 views but no replies
So, if you have some questions, or want to tell me a mistake that I've committed, or some tips, all of it would be welcome!
Thank you so much!
