Fallout 4 10mm Bio Cosplay

Here's my build of the 10mm pistol from Fallout 4! I made a blueprint in inkscape using screenshots from the game as reference. This is only my second real attempt at making a prop gun, but I think it turned out pretty good!

I started off with 2 layers of 1/2" eva foam cut in the basic shape.

After that I just start adding layers. The layers vary in size. I use 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, and 1/2in foam. Props are like onions. Because they have layers and make you cry...

Some pieces need to be dremeled before gluing them, since it would be difficult to get the right shape after gluing.

Every now and then I check the thickness just to make sure it's close to what I need.

Here the gun is with some of the layers glued down. I just continue to add layers, getting more detailed as it goes.

Some shaping done on the grip before gluing. For the rounded notch I used a smaller, stone, dremel bit to get it smooth and rounded
16.jpg17.jpg

Here I cut out these notches that are supposed to be above the trigger section.

After gluing down the grips, I did most of the shaping on them. I also did a bit of shaping on the gun in general. Rounding out some parts and added the bevels where needed. It helps to have reference images while doing this. I left the game running quite a bit just so I could look at the gun in game.

This thing was made from 2 pieces of 6mm craft foam. Then I dremeled the indent with a rounded bit and shaped it some so it would fit properly.
21.jpg

There are 2 small rivets(?) on each side of the gun, so instead of trying to make those out of foam, I just used these small brass escutcheon pins that I found at the hardware store. They aren't long enough to poke all the way through, but I cut the pointy ends off just in case. These were superglued in.
22.jpg23.jpg

I also used some wire! I just had this lying around so I'm not positive what size it is. It's steel wire and it was the right size though. I just cut small sections and bent them into shape. Then rounded off the ends with the dremel. These were also superglued into place. Here is an image of the wire and pins circled.

For this thing on the bottom of the magazine I used 2 layers of 1/2" foam. The indent was just dremeled with a round dremel bit.
25.jpg26.jpg

The front sight is a piece of 2mm craft foam, with a piece of 4mm on top.
28.jpg29.jpg

To make this disk thing I used the cap of a fine point sharpie. I just pushed and twisted in on some 2mm craft foam and it cut out a perfect circle! Then I added a small strip of foam on top.

The trigger guard is made from a strip of sintra. This could be foam as well, but I like to spin my prop guns and sintra is more sturdy for that
34.jpg35.jpg

The small yellow piece is some styrene.

The grip has this textured section. For that I cut out the shape in 2mm craft foam. Then beveled the edges. To get the texture I used this small bit and poked it a bunch.
37.jpg38.jpg

After that I did any final shaping the the dremel.
41.jpg

A hole was dremeled out for the barrel and then a piece of 1/2 cpvc was glued in.
39.jpg

The Hammer is 2 layers of 6mm foam. I also dremeled out some details in the back here.
40.jpg

For painting I used this trick I learned from Bill Doran over at Punished Props! Basically just wrap some wire around a screw and screw that into the barrel. Since the inside of the barrel is painted black anyway, it doesn't matter if there's a hole poked in it
42.jpg

I just sealed these with Plastidip. Alternating grey and black. Here's my high tech drying rack. The shower.

After Plastidip, I base coated it with a flat black rustoleum. For the silver I used Design Master: Modern Metals Champagne Silver. I like this silver, but this paint tends to have problems becoming cloudy and white. Sometimes warming the cans up in water helps, but not always. I usually just try to do very light coats and hope for the best. If anyone has recommendations for a dark silver or gunmetal, let me know!

The grip was painted with kyrlon leather brown. Then I clear coated with a flat clear coat. My preferred clear coat is Rustoleum.

Then on to weathering! I forgot to take progress pictures for each stage of this, but basiccally I added black and dark brown washes to darken it up a bit (this is just some pianted mixed with water, slathered on the gun, and the most of it is wiped off). Then burnt sienna mixed with some brown for "rust". I also did a very dark blue (almost black) wash in a couple sections. Finally a bit of red for blood spatter. Then another coat of flat clear coat.

I ended up making 3 of these and I'll be giving one away over on facebook/instagram/twitter.

Do you happen to have the blueprints for the pistol itself still? Just curious, but overall wonderful build! Ill be attempting my own build soon enough.

Keep up the good work

Amazing job! I'm looking to build the Railway rifle and I'm thinking about materials. Where do you get your foam when you build? Do they sell it at Michaels? For something a bit larger would you recommend something like PVC or foam? I'd appreciate any answer if you get a chance! This gun looks amazing and you documented the whole process wonderfully! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you! If you have a Harbor freight near by, they sell 1/2" foam, but it has a texture on 1 side that will need removed. Most hardware stores have 1/2" and 1/4" foam. For small sheets of the 1/4" / 6mm with no texture, taht is avalible at craft stores like Michael's. Michael's will also have 2mm craft foam. For any round tube like sections (which the railway rifle seems to have quite a bit of) I would just go with pvc since it's just easier to use an existing tube and add on to that with foam. You could also use a cardboard shipping tube? Coregeek Cosplay & Creations recently did a gun from overwatch. Here's a facebook like to a progress pic of the gun Coregeek made https://www.facebook.com/coregeekcc...0.1450835730./839969872788552/?type=3&theater

Hope that helps!
