That is a loud, crisp, clear sound byte.Okay, first, $500 is a lot. Second, I've been wanting to make my own for some time now.
So, what does a HERO trigger look like?
And, is this sound acceptable? (attached) I got it off of a scene in YouTube, but it is different than FE.
The sound is a nice clean sound from Starbuck's blaster in the episode, "Experiment in Terra".
You found the switch though! Thanks to Apollo directing me to images of the Hero prop blaster, I figured out what type of trigger switch it used.

I'm debating about sending it back. While happy with the prop overall it's not hitting all the marks. It's too light so I'm not feeling the heft I expect as I play with it. I really wish they made it heaver. The sound (while an excellent clip) suffers greatly from a lack of volume and the light is no replacement for the flash. The enjoyment vs the cost is not playing out in my mind, with the thrill is not lasting. Still thinking on it.
Maybe a momentary switch combined with a flash. This might help. Quick Burst Strobe LightI got the right trigger...which happens to be a limit switch. I searched and found one on eBay with the METAL wheel on the bottom like the hero blaster. Many of the wheels on the limit switches are PLASTIC.
So, can someone direct me to a light or bulb that would be appropriate for the blaster? I searched, but wasn't sure what search terms to use. I found bulbs that flash repeatedly, rather than one that just blinks once.

Strobe Light Flasher!
This strobe light flash is quick and short with a 1.5 second pause between each burst of light is pretty long so you could take your finger off the trigger if you don't use a momentary switch.
How are you planning to get into the blaster? If I could replace the light it would go a long way to making me happy with the prop.
You can see the battery pack in some of the scenes and it looked like a big fanny packOH! Okay, I was going to duplicate the effect from FE.....meaning that the sound is tied to the flash. The light comes on and STAYS on the entire time the sound is playing. I didn't realize that the actual prop might be different. hmmm...Dutch Cylon is the same way? The light stays on while the blaster sound is playing.
I think the light in your post might not stay on long enough. I went through a couple of clips on YouTube, and they show the blaster light up, and then cut away to what they are SHOOTING at. The don't stay on the guy firing to time how long the flash comes on and stays on. Can anyone lay their hands on a clip (without dragging out the DVD's) that show how long the barrel lights up?
---edit---
Ice Planet Zero. It appears that one of the guns flashes, and the sound is slightly longer than the flash. No one is doing it that way in a replica.....
Also, their flash is because they are using external power. The website said that the actor had power cables going up their arm to power the flash. It might not be possible to get as bright of a flash with internal power. The limit switch Apollo and I identified is rated for 110volts. I think they may well have been using AC power for those flashes. Trying to duplicate that on batteries may be challenging.
