Facehugger Stasis Tubes.......how?????

Just skimmed through this entire thread and I hope this gets off the ground. One of the most striking props out there ... every once in a blue moon I'll shoot Allosaur a PM telling him I want his! :)

anyone done any more work on this? I am strapped for the moment so my personal parts crusade has halted LOL

I have the Specs.
The question is....do they still have the JIG they had to make for the tops.

You can find Cheaper cast acrylic......but at MGM you were also getting the BOTTOM and TOP cut in PVC.

That included the TOP with the 3 Square sections removed. NOT an easy thing to do by yourself....trust me.

Would they discount a large order? probably a little but not much.

Oh...our price also included: a TRANSLUCENT BOTTOM and a LID for the top, a top and bottom triangle for the rods and a black piece of acrylc for the bottom.

Here's the deal guys, I have contacted the original place for the Stasis tubes, the ones we did YEARS ago (close to six years) and they no longer have our specs, my contact is no longer there and we would have to start from square one. I feel confident I can bring this back and can get off the ground, but expect a KIT cost of close to 6-700 dollars. This is a high shelf estimate, but there can be no surprises in a custom build. I remember the pieces, what parts were present in the kit, etc.

Thanks for the further details, BrundelFly. It sounds as if you put together an excellent package when you did this at MGM.

Any local member willing to contact MGM and find out whether the jig is still available, whether they could put together another run like last time, and what it would cost? It would be best to have one person on point, in order to avoid pestering MGM (or any other supplier) with too many calls.

Yup, Frank is the man who created the whole set and made all of it possible. BTW- Frank, Joel is no longer there, he left 6 years ago in fact. The good news more than likely the only guy left had some play in the tube set creations, the only thing is they do not have the files. Your specs you gave to them should fix the matter. I expect though the price of the set to be much higher since so much time has passed...who knows ? How do you want to proceed ?

I always keep an eye on threads about large cheap acrylic tubing... one day I'll make that TARDIS console... :D

Great link, mnoble2. :thumbsup

Looks like another excellent candidate. And they give free technical consultation. :D

As much as we would all love to have our own stasis tubes, I wonder if anyone is really going to want to step into the breech and volunteer to spearhead this project. It's going to be a major undertaking. Can lightning really strike twice?

I hope so. :love

My location singles me out of the loop other than in a research capacity. Hey...I'm an ideas guy, I posted the thread...what more do you want? LOL

Seriously, I agree Temp.......so, who wants all the credit?

I have the Specs.

Ill go to Plastic DEPO and price it out.

Im the best candidate.....after all..I have made 5 of the f&%ing things.

I have also had a machine shop made some of the metal parts. I have 6 sets sitting in my garage. I had planned on making 6 tubes for ebay fodder.

I'll see
what I can find out..

Frank

Thank you, Frank. I was kind of hoping you might be the one to step up to the plate, since you already have experience and expertise with this project. I'm sure many other members feel the same way.

As I wrote earlier, this is a big undertaking, and my feeling is that it wouldn't be reasonable to expect you (or anyone) to assume the burden of overseeing this project at cost. I, for one, would be very willing and even happy to pay a premium to see this project done right.

In any case, thank you so much for looking into the next step! :) :thumbsup

Interesting thread. Just for kicks, here's pics I took of an original at the museum in Chicago.

This is super cool, but will probably end up being way out of my price-range... on shipping alone. But WOW... cool thread! :thumbsup

Ok....I cant believe acrylic will have changed that much in price.

How many people are seriously interested?

The problem with large group orders...is everyone SAYS they are in, then when it comes time to pony up the cash,....everyone goes quiet.

So...I ask again.

Im Guessing Tubes, + PVC, alone are gonna run 350 to 450 cost.
Shipping is an oversized HEAVY box, and I remember it was at least 100 to ship via UPS.

My last quote at MGM was 1400 for 3. But that included some parts that I would EXCLUDE this time, however, very little to make much of a cost difference.

The other issue, is Im NOT fronting the money for this, so everyone WILL PONY UP IN FULL before I place an order.

So I ask again....

WHO IS IN?

Though I've had a lot to say in this thread, I'm stating that I am NOT in. As much as I would love one of these (and I do plan to get one in the future), there's just no way I can afford it right now. The first Aliens prop I plan on dropping over $1000 on is a well made pulse rifle. Stasis Tube is secondary.

Though if I can be of any help in the project, I'm here with bells on.

Well thanks Frank for the insight and effort. I would like to know more about which parts are going to be included and will they be cut ect.

Is MGM the one in San Marcos, CA? If it is, I've been there and have purchased plastic from them in the past. When I was there, they even had one of Frank's articles on the Stasis tubes he made, pretty cool!

What would be the total cost we're talking about, for the whole kit? The price for the tube isn't that bad.
