So here are the final pictures of my Evil Dead chainsaw replica... It's been a long road but I feel accomplished having finished this build.
Glad to have it DONE... Moving on to this years costume project, will be posting a link to the thread soon. Wish me luck!









PS- Thank all of you for your support and I'm really impressed how you guys' saws have turned out... Each piece is its own work of art.

So... Decided to pick up a can on metal epoxy and plasti-dip and tweak my saw.... Going to spray paint the now rubber side handle flat black and gore up the whole saw and then it'll find it's way on eBay and into the collection of the highest bidder.

Used the metallic epoxy to secure the chain to the guide bar... See, for some odd reason no matter how hard I would tighten the bolt and readjust the guide bar it wouldn't hold the chain on taunt so it kind of drooped (you can see it in previous photos). And after the saw was sitting around and handled roughly through a recent move, the sprocket mount sort of came loose and the whole chain drooped horribly.
So I went in with the epoxy and secured the sprocket with a splotch of goop and let it dry--the stuff held so freaking well that I decided to run some epoxy along the track of the guidebar and cram the chain inside:

It turned out perfect, you can barely even see the stuff what with all the distressing and once the blood bits are added, it'll be like its not even there!

Moving on...
Had a bit of a "bleh" with the plasti-dip:


It dried really well on the top of the sidebar but kind of looks chunky and ehhh towards the bottom... I decided to just spray paint the whole bar a flat black to even it out (future next step, not done yet till this weekend).

I kind of love plasti-dip but can already see we're going to have a love/hate relationship.
Used the epoxy to seal the muffler mount and chain/sprocket/guidebar mount into the body of the saw to make it sturdier:


And let me tell you, the saw is STURDY... Even with all the bolts, the parts were still kind of "jiggly" but with the epoxy and plasti-dip coatings I can shake the saw by the top handle and seriously nothing jiggles around... It's amazing.

Mounted the side bar:


Just got done putting the saw back together... This weekend I'm going to do final distressing and add some gore and paint the side handle and she's done. I will use a better camera (seems the one on my iphone is crapping out) and be in better lighting so you can see the beast in all its glory.

This prop will be 100% done tomorrow... Just finished tweaking everything, now I just need to paint the side handle a flush and even flat black so it doesn't look so splotchy and add some blood to the blade........ Maybe about the blood. I will snap pics and post them on here. Then the thing is officially for sale.

Been working on so many projects!
Writing a Friday the 13th fan film script, assisting my girlfriend with her Cassie Hack costume, planning my Dr. Decker from Nightbreed costume, putting finishing touches on my horror novel so I can print it out and send it off and tweaking my horror/comedy script Jack Attack! so I can send it to Warner Bros. and Lionsgate in hopes they'll take the pitch and make something out of it.

The saw...

Is DONE.

I am thoroughly happy with how she looks now, sitting on a shelf and looking all sexy.
The final process was well worth it as I am finally FINALLY happy with the way the saw looks as a whole.

Here's what went down:

Plasti-dipped the whole side handle (got a bit of a seam towards the top and had to have at it with an X-acto knife but it's a really minor flaw) and spray painted it a flat black. Now it's rubber coated and has a nice grip to it.


Started adding the final oily distressing to several parts of the body.


Added a few touches of metallic paint to several metal parts that got too blacked out from distressing (specifically these top bolts and on several of the metal flanks that hold the t-bolt clamp onto the body):


And as a finale I decided I wanted to give it an old dried blood look to the blade specifically... Kind of as if Ash had used it thoroughly during the cabin fiasco and then let it sit around to collect dust after his Army of Darkness days:


This was achieved low budget style... I simply ran a trail of cheap Halloween vampire blood along the teeth of the blade and let it run down onto the guide bar and immediately sprayed it with Crystal Clear to give it a dulled down look. Turned out nicely.

I am so freaking happy with how great this piece looks... All my dedication and hard work turned out superb.
Was going to sell it but am going to add it to my collection and keep it for next years Halloween (plan on being zombie/deadite possessed Ash).

So like late last year I mounted this beast to my dining room wall. I have a mold of a double barrel but haven't casted it yet as I'm contemplating materials.... but the saw should have a friend as soon as I get off my arse.

Hoping someone that has made one can help me out. I have a XL arriving next week, and I want to order the sheet metal for the top of the chainsaw. There's a place on eBay to purchase from.

What are the dimensions of the top sheet does anyone know? I'd prefer to order it exactly to size rather than hacksawing my way through it.

Got a new job so I should be able to finish it soon. Just need to mount the T-Bolt. Thinking about getting some kind of metal ring to wrap the clamp around so it's not just a dorky clamp hanging off the back (more like the wrist clamp attachment in AOD: http://www.bookofthedead.ws/evildeadchainsaws/website/images/lg_photos_medieval_6.jpg).
Also trying to get in contact with Venkman about that cursed grill piece so I can slap it on the saw and paint the whole thing to give it a dirty 'used' look (an idea I have for the saw to give it an offsetting macabre look is to paint up the chainsaw bar and chain with blood and flesh chunks and hang some strands of hair that might have got stuck in the chain after Ash sawed into Linda's dismembered reanimated head).

As far as my plans for putting the saw to use, I've decided to be a zombie/deadite version of Ash for Halloween if I can afford the things I need to garner for such.
The needed items are of course his shirt and pants and belt and watch... Then it's on to the boots, which I have a choice between...

Then I need to get my hands on a double barrel shotgun replica... I found a really nice one at a replica gun collector website but it's a coach gun and more western (has external hammers unlike Ash's) but for now it'll do, especially since I'm going to be a zombie Ash and I don't think I will be pulling it out of the harness scabbard very often due to this:

But I'd really like to get my hands on this shotgun, however I don't know really how to go about it, I think they rent them out or will charge the hell out of you if you inquire about purchasing the prop (even though this is exactly what Ash's boomstick looked like):

Thought I'd pop in this thread rather than starting yet ANOTHER Evil Dead chainsaw thread, I've tried to look through a lot of the threads for the answer to this but there are so many of them.

My question is what are people using for the top plate on these? Type of metal and thickness etc? I've just spent hours cutting away at the engine with a pretty dull hack saw and my arm is killing me now lol.

The parts list I have shows a 1/32" x 4" x 18" flat stock SS plate for the lid. I can't remember if I got it at Lowes or ordered it online.

What's that in U.K. Terms lol my conversions are not so good lol I'm guessing threats 4" across the saw by 18" from front to back? 18" seems pretty long.

I used 2mm sheet steel. Once i cut the handle off the saw, i measured the same recess to fit the plate across the width.
