Ep IV obi transistors

How posative are we that the buttons on the Obi episode IV saber are transistors? I would venture a guess that somone out there has proven 100% that they are but I was just wondering.

I found something interesting that reminded me of them from the early sixties.

I'm not expert but someone found transistors that are just about perfect, even the writing on the top matched (or was pretty damn close). Just out of curiousity (if you don't mind spilling the beans) what'd you find? If what you found is a close resemblance and more easily found then it'd still be a great find.

Several types of components have had that type of capsule.
I used to use a type of IC's of some kind on my saber, not transistors.

I thought the transistors were discovered to be some sort of Motorola product... or at least guess-timated to be Motorola...

Sulla,

When I started lurking on the RPF, about a year ago, it was already the belief that the buttons were some sort of TO-39 (transistor outline number 39) cased transistors. I don't know the history on how that belief was established, but I accepted that thought, and based on it, I did a rather extensive search of known TO-39 (TO-5 are the same size) transistors that would have part numbers begining with "MA" markings. (BTW - there are over 14,000 semiconductors, i.e. ICs, diodes, varactors, SCRs, transistors, and such, that have designations that begin with "MA", of which about 25 are the correct case size and were available in the mid 70s.) From that information, I tracked down a couple of transistors which are shown here:

Serafino's transistor thread

I agree with Darth Lars that they are Motorola, but because the logos and markings are so badly damaged and obscured, the exact ones may never be found.

THAT SAID - If you've found some other part or device that's the correct size, and has the correct markings on it --- I need 2. :lol

ATL Kenobi

Also BTW - If anyone's actually looking for the previously mentioned transistors, I believe they would be found in circuits that combined both vacuum tubes and transistors, possibly TVs, "Hi FI" stereos, and radio receivers from the mid to late 60s. Perhaps a TV repair shop that's been in business since that time period may have a few dusty specimens sitting on a shelf.

got this from the WONDERFUL site: http://herocomm.com/

Well, not spot-on, but it did remind me of the obi saber...

Yeah, the Thunder jet rims...they're about half the size though.

Your pic does show something interesting however...the existance of Metal T-Jet rims...
Someone told me once they didn't exist.

HA I say.

So are the transistors the only parts that haven't been positively ID'd from the OWK ANH saber?

so then is anyone making these repros i could contact? i did see once on ebay, a seller there, that had some, and they looked really good, but i cant remember who it was now.

Hmmm. I wonder if the wheels on the back of the Vader ROTJ neck brace are also from slot cars?

if you mean the center part in back, nope. it was part of the original medical neckbrace they used to make the vader brace.

i had found the real original type brace they used after lots of researching. even seen a couple go on ebay too.

the center knob cylinder parts, were part of the brace, it was the adjustment for the brace in back. they just left it on, as it looked cool, and painted it. or i have also heard, they reproduced that part in metal and swapped it out.

but if you mean those oither lil round thingies in the split plugs, you could be right. i dont know for sure what those were.

Yes the wheels on the split plugs. I always thought they were wheels from some kind of toy car but I hadn't a clue what kind. They look quite similar to the T-bird wheels.

they could be. i never delved into researching for anything mor than the dental expanders, and split plugs.

and after hours of diggin round on that. decided it was best to just buy a portumac brace complete with all the goodies on it.
