Limited Run Eomer's Sword GUTHWINE replica: carbon steel, brass and leather MAGNOLI

Getting it closer to the original prop, by this new method is more important then the ETA ,getting it accurately done is the answer to the problem.

No one has said otherwise. It's still nice to have an update when we're 9 months past the original ETA. ;)

There’s been an awful lot of complaining on this thread, so I’d like to point a few things out.

First, Guthwine is one of the most complicated sword designs in LOTR. I’d personally rather wait for an accurate replica than get a rushed version.

Second, this sword is made with a carbon steel blade which is of much higher quality than what UC uses.

Third, this version comes with a scabbard, which was redesigned on request to be more accurate.

Fourth, this sword is being made based on photos rather than from a mold from Weta. Speaking from experience, it takes a long time to make a sword that way. I recreated Faramir’s sword and it took 3 years just to produce a single sword and scabbard.

I know it’s been a long time coming, but I think we all could be a little more patient. Things like this take time to get right.

Thanks for understanding... it doesn't help (or maybe it does) that I want this to be as good as we can get it (for myself as well). We were quite close to the end, and then we discovered a new finishing technique, so I decided to have all the hilts and pommels redone. I've got my own team hounding me for updates as well, so I'm constantly badgering the factory for news. I'll pass on anything substantial here... when I know... you'll know! :) Thanks again for sticking with us through this long process!

Talked to the factory again and it's the scabbards causing the delay. Because we want the accurate grooved shape, we've got to cast these in plastic before doing the leather wrap, but our factory doesn't usually work with plastic, so there's a learning curve. The last pulls were not so good, so they're revising their methods to increase quality and consistency. Stay tuned!

Errr...plastic scabbard? What are the chances of just getting one of the inaccurate scabbards without the grooves? I'd rather have wood.

The only way to get a consistent shape to match the blade is to make a master and cast the scabbard. It'll still be covered in leather, so once it's finished it will NOT look nor feel like a toy. That being said, if you'd rather have a flat wooden scabbard, that can certainly be done. Please contact us via e-mail directly with your order number and we'll update your order accordingly.

Due to the delays, we're looking at finishing up all the swords and shipping them out without scabbards. Once the scabbards are finished, they'll be sent separately. How does that sound?

I doubt our scabbards will fit the UC Guthwine, if that's what you're thinking. We're only planning on making matching scabbards to our swords, in any case.

If there was no extra cost involved in having a scabbard shipped separately when they’re ready, that would be fine by me. Otherwise I can wait.

No, other collectors including myself just hang the scabbard next to sword and doesn't matter if it fits or not. If it something you decide to do in the future, you'll have a few orders - heck I'd even just buy the cast metal parts and make my own scabbard.
