Egon's Spider-man costume. NEW PHOTOS! Nov 2, 2014,

Re: Egon's Spider-man costume progress and advice thread- Help needed!!!

Egon, this thread is awesome, haha. I'm having a seamstress sew my current ASM2 suit right now, but when I build my Scarlet Spider later this summer, I think I might try a hand at sewing it myself. As you said, it's a good learning experience if nothing else, right? haha
Also, I agree with Luna on that web back pack! I really love how that looks. A wonderful, well-executed idea :)

Re: Egon's Spider-man costume progress and advice thread- Help needed!!!

Mr.Mondu: Thanks! It's honestly worth sewing yourself for the learning experience for future costumes. The thing that makes sewing a Spidey suit a real pain is matching up the webbing. ACK. I sewed my costume because I didn't want to put out the cash to have someone do it for me. In all honesty though if you want to avoid a lot of frustration and have never sewn spandex before, having someone else do it is a good way to go.

Thanks for the complement on the backpack. I just added more work to it today. :) Got a bit more to do and then it'll be finished.

Re: Egon's Spider-man costume progress thread. Updated with webpack.

The back pack is pretty sweet and big. Love to see how it looks with the suit. Good job!

Re: Egon's Spider-man costume progress thread. Updated with webpack.

Thanks! Me too! I've actually done even more work on my web pack since these two photos. :D I'm going to wait until my suit arrives to post any more photos.

The pack now has webbing on the bottom straps too. :D

Dang. Looking better and better. I agree with mrodhawks, I can't wait to see how the whole suit will look with that back pack. Gosh, just looking at it now, those straps really help to give that whole webbing feel. Probably stabilizes the pillow a lot better than just two straps. too, haha. Are you planning to do the bottom half of the straps in a similar fashion?

Re: Egon's Spider-man costume progress thread. Updated with webpack.

I can't believe I haven't posted this here yet. Trophywife did an awesome job installing zippers for the head, back, and wrists in this suit, but after the fact, I decided to make the costume have a removable mask. Easier to eat and drink that way too. Plus I just like the idea of being able to take the thing off easily.

The costume looks a little different from this photo now since I decided to go that route, but here is a photo with the pack. I know it's a bit large, but I like how it looks. I can easily carry my belongings in it.

What glues are good to use that wont stain if you need to glue a faceshell inside the mask? I would like to put a small foam piece in there to cover the mouth area.

Re: Egon's Spider-man costume. Finished PHOTOS! 4/29/14

Had a brief photo shoot, today, done by a friend of mine.
Doing another next Monday if everything works out. :)

A few photos from my theater appearance on May 1st when they were already showing the film. I got a few photos with some people but there wasn't a huge crowd coming to see the film that day.

Here are a few from May 2nd.

Interesting story. I was there the night before in my Spidey costume, they were already showing the film on May1st. I asked the theater if it would be okay if I returned on the 2nd for the actual opening day. When I arrived I saw Spider-man was already there with Spider-girl. Awkward.

I was going to leave, as they were there first when I arrived. Instead of leaving I approched them and explained the situation and that I'd be fine with leaving if they wanted me to since they were there first. I didn't want to crash their party or anything. They were both very cool about it and I stayed and we got a ton of photos together and with people coming to see film. I wish I could find some of those photos online. These two were so very cool and friendly. I'm glad I got to meet them. :)

This thread was both educational and inspirational. Thank you for both. Your suit looks really good, and that backpack is fantastic. Glad everything worked out well for you at the premiere.

Some new photos from Halloween!

This was one of the best Halloweens ever. I went into town for the Boo Ha Ha festival as Spider-man and was swarmed by kids and their parents wanting photos. It was INSANE! They loved it!

I don't have photos from that, but I do have some from before the event started.

Here they are.

I was never really happy with how the eyes turned out on this costume. I always felt I looked a bit cross-eyed. I've recently updated the eyes. First I made them much larger but they felt like something was missing, so I made some prototype frames that I feel give it a more comic book feel. These look dark in the photo, but they're actually brown felt. I prefer using felt for the eye frames rather than plastic. The whites of the eyes are sunshades for a car cut to shape. What do you guys think? I'm also thinking of adding a thin layer of plastic over the white eyes to give that reflective look. I'll probably put a gap around the eyes if i do that, hidden under the frames to help prevent fogging.

Well, back at it with this costume, trying to get in shape to wear it again and also trying to get it into better shape to wear it. I was never happy with the weblines on this when wearing it. They were always too thin and not dark enough, especially when worn and stretched. I did darken them some with Pigma graphic pens but was super careful about it. They still never came out right. Well, this time I'm all in and I'm really darkening them in and making them much wider than the originals. Here is a crappy progress pic taken with a phone camera, but trust me, they look better in person and would on a better camera. Doesn't help that the light I used while drawing them is washing them out too.

I worked all day on redoing my mask. I took out old crappy seams and sewed them again. I added darker thicker weblines. I added clear lenses over the white screen. Where there were no weblines due to seams, I added them carefully with high quality ink pens.
