EFX Mark IX Science tricorder

Hi All!

I am glad that some of you are starting to receive your Tricorders!

I see that people are discussing the diffusion of the LED's. Here is what it is. The main screen has the diffusion of the LED's EXCEPT the ones under the "00101111010", where there is no diffusion and you can actually see the individual LED's.

Then the Red "ID" Led on the door is diffused.

All the rest, you are supposed to see the LED.

Thanks!

Bryan

I know that a discussion of a possible slight delay in the closing ratchet sound will start here soon, so before there are any mis-assumptions (is there such a word? If not, there should be! haha!), here are the facts of the "issue". We have improved this SLIGHTLY. It is sort of a catch 22. Since it is a switch, the the lighting effects start as soon as you start to open the door. So, the switch makes contact almost immediately as you OPEN the door. Unfortunately, the concession is that the switch does not disengage until you get to about the same point in the opposite direction. The closing ratchet sound starts when the switch disengages. Thus the problem. You can either have the lighting effects start immediately upon opening the door, and have the closing ratchet sound slightly delayed or have the lighting effects start later and then the ratchet sound start as soon as you start to close the door.

So, even though there is a slight improvement, if you close the door slowly, you may still experience a slight delay in the sound.

Obviously the actual screen used props did not have this problem since the sound was added later in post production!

I hope this explains the function.

Thanks!

Bryan

Here's in the case. Lights shut off after two minutes so you can leave it opened inside.

Could someone provide a direct link so that I can finally get one?

Would it have been possible to use two reed switches, one for the lights/opening ratchet and the other for the closing ratchet? If the closing ratchet switch were placed at the base of the door so it would disengage as the door starts to close, that could do it.

The case looks great but I am glad i didn't order it now that i see the plaque doesn't fit. I think i'm going to try to find or make a case thats big enough for it.

That is an awesome feature, completely lacking in the MR items! On the other hand making a plaque that doesn't fit in the display is a huge oversight.

Please let me take this opportunity to address the issue with the plaque not fitting in the display base. . .

As many of you know, we do not supply acrylic covers with our replicas. Those who are familiar with our Star Wars products, the helmets are on a round base and the X-wings were on an oval base. The plaques are simply placed in front of the replica. So it was not our intent to supply a cover with the Tricorder, so this was not a consideration or issue.

Unfortunately, when our vendor ordered the bases, they made the assumption that we wanted to order the base and cover, just like Master Replicas did. So, now, the vendor would have not have only been stuck with 700 covers, but would not have been able to export the Tricorders out of China, since in the customs documents, it identified the base as "base and cover"! So to help them out, we agreed to offer these covers to our customers. And to be honest, we did not check to see if our standard signature plaque fit inside the acrylic cover before we offered to help our vendor. And the plaques were already signed by Brent Spiner!

So, I apologize for any inconvenience. We want you to be completely satisfied, so if you would like to return the cover for a refund, we will be happy to accommodate you.

Thanks!

Bryan

Thanks for the explanation EFX . Didn't you have to remake the plaques because of some issue? Too bad this wasn't caught then.
Will you be moving away from the MR style base for future ST items? I thought it odd they were the same exact bases.

Thanks for the explanations Bryan.

I for one have no intention of returning anything, I think you did a great job on a project that seems to have had curse on it for a couple of years and I'm glad to see the curse has finally been lifted.

I'm actually glad that the cover and base match the old MR covers and bases because it will display very nicely with the rest of my Star Trek collection. As the the plaque, you can still display it on top of the case or in front of it. It will certainly not stop me from keeping the cover.

As for the complaints, don't worry about them, this is the RPF and that is what people do here. :lol:lol:lol

A toast to Bryan and to everyone here for making this a smooth and professional discussion regarding the Mark IX Tricorder replica. I couldn't be more satisfied with Bryan's willingness to come over to an online forum and address to everyone the status of this replica even from behind the scenes. I shall be receiving my Tricorder sometime next week and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

:cheers

I wouldn't call them complaints really. Just good questions. I think eFX did an amazing job on these and it will probably be the highest quality prop i have. I am still contemplating getting the case because it completes the set and it does look great dispite the plaque not fitting. I guess it depends on the display it goes into. If it's going on a shelf then this cover would be great and i probably wouldn't show the plaque. If it goes into a bigger closed up display with other ST props then i wouldn't want the cover on anyways and the plaque can just sit there. So i guess i just made up my mind, i have to go order a cover......

And to be honest, we did not check to see if our standard signature plaque fit inside the acrylic cover before we offered to help our vendor.

Thank you for your honesty; customer trust and loyalty are built on this and not on excuses. (Refraining from posting complaints about other non-prop related online retailers right now :)) I think it is fair to say that most of us have overlooked something at one time or another. While I have not ordered my acrylic cover yet...I have to wait for the next payday :lol ...I think it is an excellent addition and offers another option for displaying the Tricorder....which I should receive by Wednesday !!!! Thanks again.
