eFX Gets Star Trek License

No thats the MR tricorder, I was just playing...although it doesnt look like anyone was fooled. I havent been able to get ahold of Brian, but if its pushed back another month now ill be really bummed out. I knew there was a potential issue with the signing, but you would think they would at least want to get the tricorders to the states. Watch...Feb release due to customs issues. I was super positive about this, but im starting to give in to the MR MK IX curse.

On a positive note, if the pictures Yen Chih linked are the actual production release, it looks like they did actually change the color. Ive seen the whole list of changes from MRs release, but its nothing major. I did like the MR tricorder color though because it matched the phaser.

Instead of making us wait 2 extra months just for the plaque, they could have shipped the Tricorders to us now without them and then sent us the plaques when they got the problems worked out.

It would also have been nice of eFX to update their site and to email us to let us know what is happening.

As much as I like eFX and what they have done, this is hitting too close to home with all the garbage MR put us through with their Tricorder.

here's hoping it isn't too long a waiting period, I emailed their customer service last week, still nothing from them yet, I don't think we have anything to worry about though :rolleyes

You are right, Bryan told me on the phone, that they have changed the color to lighter metal color, to accurately match it to the screen used ones. They also probably adressing to graphics to improve the lighting, IIRC.

Well, on the side wouldn't mind the late shipping in febuary, as along as they deliver a nice tricorder without flaws like the sounds or hinge probs on the MR.

Yeah, I'm really sick of this, after ordering one from MR and for it not to be made, then these really minor upholds on the signature - you would have thought eFX would have been aware of our troubles. Brent Spiner's sig is a GREAT bonus - but the main reason why I wanted one of these is for that ever elusive Tric!:cry

I could give a wa-hewy about the Spiner signature but if I'm going to have to wait 2 more months then I'd like to know so that I can free up the money I set aside for 2 tricorders for extra xmas money.

On the color issue I can't wait to compare it to my screen used tricorder to see how closely they match. I also wonder if I can replace the back of one of them to create a DS9 medical tricorder to accept a hand scanner.

I emailed Bryan this morning and he just got back to me and confirmed that the Tricorders are going to be delayed because they had to reject all of the plaques that Brent was going to sign. He said there was apparently something wrong with the stamp tool since every plaque had the same defect in the same spot. He also said he was waiting to make an announcement until they get confirmation that the new plaques will be sent out as scheduled. At that point they will then schedule with Brent for him to sign them, send them back to China and then have the Tricorders shipped from China. As you can imagine, this is going to delay the shipping of the Tricorders by at least 1 month, if not more.

I also asked him about getting the Tricorders without the plaque and then having the plaque shipped later and he said unfortunately, that is not possible because from an inventory stand point, it would be a logistical nightmare, since some will have plaques and some will not.

So that is the latest from Bryan. I'm sure they are just as upset about this as we are and hope to have it resolved as soon as possible.

Hi Everyone!

I just got an email from one of the members of the board in regards to the schedule for the Tricorder. Unfortunately, it is correct that the schedule to ship has been delayed about a month.

We rejected the plaques that Brent were to sign. There apparently was something wrong with their stamp tool which cuts out the plaque. Every plaque had the same defect in the same place.

I have not posted anything yet, since I was waiting for the confirmation that the new plaques will be sent this Friday (which is only a couple days away), as (re)scheduled. Once I got confirmation that the plaques are en route, we are going to schedule a appointment with Brent and then confirm a ship date to everyone. I did not want to go back and possibly post a further delay.

As for shipping without the plaque. Unfortunately, that is not possible because from an inventory stand point, that would be a logistical nightmare, since some will have plaques and some will not.

Also, we cannot send the plaques separately for many reasons. There is a chance that they can get lost en route to the customers (because of the small size of the package, it will be easier to lose a plaque, than an entire Tricorder!) There is a chance of damage in shipping, etc, etc. In simple math, by shipping 2 separate packages, you just DOUBLED your chance of something going wrong! And to be honest, as a small company, we cannot simply "absorb" issues like this and thus we cannot afford to take that "gamble"

Just a hint you should always factor you Prop ship dates by at least a month, like Scotty did to keep his "Miracle worker" rep.

That way IF there are no problems, plaques , customs, etc. you will be coming in a month ahead of schedule!

I was just on eFX's website and they have updated the anticipated shipping date to be early January. Hopefully that means the new plaques have been shipped and they are okay.
