eFX Gets Star Trek License

Can anyone from eFX confirm they fixed the ratchet sound problem MR ignored?

This was a big issue with many people. It really seems that if you guys modified the tricorder to be more accurate this would have been fix.

My understanding is that this isnt being addressed. The only changes are the color, better light diffusion, and removing the little brass "fence" piece in the screen. All the same...was it really such a big problem. I think most people flipped out from the pre-release video that MR released. I have a MR IX and my ratchet sound works fine. Plays right when you open, and when I close it the sound effect stops just as the magnet snapps the door closed all the way. I dont recall any of the other people on here who picked one up complaining about it either.

Hey QuasiOdo.....Im in cleveland OH too...get in touch!

Only a problem if its a problem :)
If the actual product doesnt have the delay then I think it wouldnt be an issue of course.

Either way I'm buying it.. it just seems unprofessional and dissapointing to create such an amazing prop that has that one flaw in it after saying it was modified to be more accurate. Having a sound that's off just kind of tarnishes an otherwise PERFECT product.

I've heard reports of some people who have the actual MR product who DID have the delay. Maybe it depended on what batch you got of those 300 that were sent out? *shrugs*

Again though, if there is no delay then there is no complaint :love

Hm. This is what I get for not reading the boards carefully enough.. I'll definitely have to get me one of these.

The sound doesn't bother me, since I intend to disable it anyway, or at least install some sort of switch.

Errrr, could you care to enlighten me on what the problem with the classic phaser was?

Repost of my original post#78

That would be interesting to see done.

Lets see...

A more correctly sized and shaped P1.

Bring in the gap in front of the aspirator fins.

Make it where you don't have to hold down the trigger to hear the entire overload sound.

Tweak the colors a little bit, the accuracy of the colors for the handle and P1 are debatable.

For fun...

Add a lighted indicator jewel to the P1.

A pager vibration feature when the trigger is pulled, ALA the USSCassiopeia.com phaser.

A rotating and changing setting indicator on the P1, like the Art Asylum phaser.

A Black and White version, although I find that phaser visually unexciting. It was redone for a reason.

What did I miss?

All except the first thing on the list above are minor nitpicks.

The biggest problem with the MR was the P1 size and shape did not match any of the known remaining original props.

Its smaller size made the front of the P2 look too tall and threw off the line symmetry of the rest of the phaser.

It has been said that the production factories could not get this right and there was no time left in the product release schedule at the time for it to be redone.

You missed the height of the the body on the p2 by the "window". I always hated
how tall that was on their model. :)

I really love my MR TOS phaser though. The metal body s
awesome!

I can live with the MR Phaser the way it is, except for the shape of the P1 and the gap at the front of the aspirator fins, I always hated that. I would also love the idea of a lighted indicater jewel on the P1. I've seen pictures of a prototype that MR did that did have the jewel and it looked great. They probably got rid of it because of the cost though.

As for the colors, I think MR did a great job with them except for the P1.

I'd actually like to see a licensed "screen accurate" version built up. Fiberglass body halves, the retractable tip (like the original), GOW bulb, twist lock, etc. No sound or anything, just like they used on the show.

I would love it too, but it would probably cost a fortune.

The "forehead" of the P2 actually is WAAAAAAAAY too tall.
But the most heinous crime is that fish-shaped P1. I remember opening the box and seeing it and just feeling sick.
The pistol body color and shape seem within parameters- the handle could be less metallic, and shaped more accurately. The p1 color is a virtual match for Zynolite dark gray primer... but the size and shape- yeeechh!
The sound/light sequence IS impressive, though.
Also- the thing is so damn heavy!
If they JUST fixed the basics, I could do without additional bells & whistles, which would drive the cost up.

Got an update. From the website:

"The US$ 249 balance plus shipping & handling and applicable California Sales tax, if applicable, is due when the product is in stock and ready to ship, anticipated to be in late November."

When I first ordered, that sentence said "December" instead. We are def. making progress!:love

To confess, I am really paranoid about this thing. Every time I look at pics or visit eFX, I get awful flashbacks of how sad it was reading the MR tricorder dear john email.

How about you guys? More confident?

I'm actually really excited about this. I seriously doubt that they're not going to deliver (but I didn't have the MR version on order, so I'm not as paranoid as you guys who did).

I just went to the website and it doesn't look like the bar has gone down much since the initial preorder madness. If they don't sell all the pieces before they ship, will eFX cap the edition size to the amount actually sold like they seemed to do with some of their other products?

I've been wondering about that too. It really doesn't make sense to cap it at say 400 or 500 pieces, if that is all they have sold. I'm also wondering if they are going to wait until they are sold out or they don't think they are going to sell anymore before they actually start making these.

Even though I'm one of the ones who had my order cancelled by the @#%*& at MR, I'm not worried about that happening with eFX. So far, they have delivered on everything that has been ordered. It may take a little longer than some of us would like, but as long as we get it, I'm happy.
