eFX Gets Star Trek License

Wow, I cannot wait!!!! After the sadness I experienced when MR cancelled, I will be a wreck if I miss this chance.

How about an RPF pre-pre order? I would bet you have a pretty loyal base here.

Brent's signature is on a plaque not on the base.

That's great.

Do you know when we will be able to start ordering it? I saw on another site the date of 09/29/09 and was wondering if that is when the Pre-Orders will begin.

I was also wondering if eFX is going to use the rest of MR's Tricorder's that never got out of the factory or are you completely re-doing them?

Next up – Ships and more props for 2010
But finishing where Master Replicas left of is only the beginning for eFX. According to Ono, he wants to do one new replica each quarter, meaning he is hoping to get four out in 2010. They are currently in development on designs for a number of props and ships including a Wrath of Khan phaser, a TOS era Phaser, and a large scale (28") Klingon Vor’cha Battlecruiser from DS9. Ono notes that these plans are not final and they haven’t got sign offs yet from CBS. No pricing as of yet, but Ono says he hopes to keep the items affordable, and they will also have a payment plan.

According to Ono, eFX works closely with many of the original designers for the ships and props, such as John Eaves, and have access to original source material as well as all the sound files. The goal in the short term is to develop items that were not done by Master Replicas, but they will also do some that MR did if they feel improvements can be made (such as the case of the TOS era phaser).

Klingon Battlecruiser & TWOK Phaser – two items high eFX’s replica to-do list

In addition to the studio scale ship replicas, eFX will also be working on smaller ‘Precision Cast’ replicas of around 10-12", which will be more affordable. Ono says they hope to have two of these smaller ships out in 2010, with the first being the original TOS Enterprise (NCC-1701). They will then move on to other ships in the series, Ono noting "we want to do all the Enterprises, eventually." These will probably coast around $250 and include lights, but no sounds.

Thanks for the info silverskyes.

I understand it's way early (pre-orders didn't even get taken yet!), and eFX might not want to put their necks on the line by telling us a release date that doesn't come to pass (from what I understand this happened a lot with some other company). AND, its probably in their best interest to release the date when they have much more concrete info so people don't start to panic if a delay occurs, drawing unnecessary comparisons to the previous errors and failures of others...

With that said, any Idea of the eFX release date of the tricorder?

According to the article, we will be able to pre-order the Tricorder starting on 9/29/09 with Delivery sometime in October or November. That sounds kind of fast, but hopefully they know what they are talking about. I also like the fact that they are going to make some improvements to the Tricorder, including matching the Color better and making the lights more diffused so the LED's are not so bright. They did not mention anything about the closing ratchet. The article says the price is supposed to be $349 and for an extra $29, you can by an acrylic cover.

This sounds great to me. For $380, you get a better Tricorder than the MR version that also has Brent Spiner's signature.

One of the things Brian and the other folks at eFx have said is that their products won't take forever to ship. There will be smaller windows of preorder time and the product will ship soon after. It's great in that it doesn't take 9 months to get something, but at the same time, there is less time to save from when something is announced to when it ships.

I wish they would announce a 1/350 refit Enterprise. I would LOVE to get that and I'm sure it would be a BIG seller if they could pull it off!

Here's hoping they will do it eventually!

Brian said they want to eventually do all of the different versions of the Enterprise. But I don't know what size they will be.

My first thought was that they bought the tooling and parts from MR, and that this piece would be nearly identical to the MR piece but with the few modifications they have called out. That would make it all metal.

I am lucky enought to have gotten one of the MR tricorders, and I love it. The metal is a bit heavier than ideal -- but it gives it an impressive feel.

Agreed, it will be a metal body just like the MR.

Wow, cant believe I didnt hear about this until now. VERY EXCITING! I love my MR IX Tricorder, but am excited to see what they do with it. If they are building off of MR's model, I hope that they improve the lighting/graphics system. The only thing I really dislike about the MR is the weird translucent screen with the LEDs set back a good bit. If you hold it at an angle none of it even lines up right. I know everyone and their mother *****ed about the closing ratchet sound but mine worked great. It stops just as the door closes and the magnet takes hold to keep it shut. There were a couple links posted througout this thread so I guess I have more reading to do, but like all of you, I am very excited.

Anyone know what happened (or is happening) with the company that bought MR?

Wait what? So basically you are asking eFX to take pre-pre orders from RPF members? WHAT A MARVELOUS IDEA! THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION!!

Huh huh, come on, whaddya say? :angel

Im surprised nobody has commented on the revisiting (and improving upon) the TOS Phaser. Im saving my money now for that one.

Yeah, I'm quite excited about this. I've been on the fence about picking one up, so I'm most likely going to jump on it, especially if the price is right.

That would be interesting to see done.

Lets see...

A more correctly sized and shaped P1.

Bring in the gap in front of the aspirator fins.

Make it where you don't have to hold down the trigger to hear the entire overload sound.

Tweak the colors a little bit, the accuracy of the colors for the handle and P1 are debatable.

For fun...

Add a lighted indicator jewel to the P1.

A pager vibration feature when the trigger is pulled, ALA the USSCassiopeia.com phaser.

A rotating and changing setting indicator on the P1, like the Art Asylum phaser.

A Black and White version, although I find that phaser visually unexciting. It was redone for a reason.

What did I miss?

How about a PROP replica. You know, a plain static phaser that REPLICATES what was actually used.

Forget the noise the lights and all that. Just a PROP REPLICA.
