i think you're right on the color scheme.
the big question now is "what is the name of the medal?"
if we could find the name....finding one will be easy. then you can put any color ribbon on it you want.
my guess is that it came from a military surplus store.
but is it american, german, french, or what?!?!?!!
like billy was saying the only alterations are 2 feathers cropped on the top. and the engraving of "noni" on one of the bars.
after you got that molding it would be a cake walk!

I know it's been a long time since this thread was active, but I wanted to add some closure to this hunt because it has been found.
It was actually a pretty long and interesting detective story, but for the abridged:

Using the images in this thread, I found smaller versions described as "fobs", which apparently
were used as ornaments for pocketwatches, and using google translate and backwards searching, I saw that the few I could find in this style often had "fraternity" in the description. Seeing as some of them had german words stamped into them, I searched for "german fraternity fobs" and that put me on the right track.

The correct name for it is "Bierzipfel".
It's not a military medal, but a student fraternity symbol, often worn in Weinheimer Senioren-Convent.

The bierzipfel is one of several sizes of "zipfel", a term that I cannot find a proper translation for.

How to get one:
Lookin on German Ebay under student auctions, or "studentica", you can find one of these with a bit of searching and help from google translate.

Since there are hundreds of different color combinations for the ribbon and at least a dozen different designs for the metal shields, I would suggest you go straight to the source and buy a newly produced one. I found out about this option after I had already bought my vintage one, but the price is about the same, roughly 40-60 euros.

Personally from the closeup picture in the thread I always interpreted Edward's medal as red, white and yellow with golden trim, but watching the movie there is a scene with the inventor wearing it where I'd admit it looks like the last color is more blue or greenish.

Anyways, here's my find.
The ribbon is reversed and the symbol on the shield is not an exact match, but it is close enough for me.
