Interesting - I never noticed that 8-d-8 uses the same dynodes (vents on the side) that are on the ROTJ Vader reveal mask.

thanks for the comments chaps:thumbsup, there hasnt been a junkyard thread yet as ive been getting this girl out of the molds

i was dissapointed to find a pin hole air bubble on the casting......oh the shame!

ive started the dirtying down of cz-1 ,what a difference that makes!
eyes have been installed on 8-d-8 but im going to replace them with "version 2" they are tricky little buggers.

Wow, those are sweet! I wish I could build a full set of droids like I am doing with 2-1B using your heads. Turn my house into a sandcrawler!

8D8 really reminds me of an early version or prototype of the ABC robot from Judge Dredd.

i intend to have flashing eyes in 9d9 just gotta wait for the dam leds to arrive(come on chinese ebay man!)

both the droids were painted gloss white (halfords appliance white) it was the first time id used it and to be honest i didnt like it that much, went on quite heavy. i will try white primer with a clearcoat over it next time i paint one.

no 5 admiral grey handbrushed on the cz. i figured this would probably be the colour used as its the same grey used on the stormtrooper helmets so it would be around

masking fluid on the top of cz then a dark grey misted over the upper areas. fluid removed then a coat of a light desert sand(tamiya)over the top of that. then tamiya white in and around where the masking fluid was


the 8d8 just has washes of various earthy rusty browns (humbrol tins) yellow clearcoat on the eyes (tamiya) and given a misting with the dark grey all over to give a speckley effect.oh and plasti cote gold chrome for the side grills.

CZ-1 creeps me out, but 8D-8 was always a good, weird looking droid. You've done an amazing job with these, Zorg, and the paint descriptions would make mimicking your stellar paint job a lot less painful.
