Awesome! just wasnt sure. Most con's up here are alright with staffs as long as they arn't metal, being it will be my first time at DC I wasn't sure how they were when it comes to weapons.

No problem at all, I'll be there all weekend and it will be my main cosplay. Just let me know and we can try to meet up
 
This weapon talk has started me thinking of a project I stopped working on years ago. You mentioned the con is fine with real swords as long as they aren't used in a threatening manner, does that mean it's ok to walk around in a costume with two metal (display, so not SHARP, but still pointy on the ends) swords on your back? They aren't in a sheath or scabbard, just slid through loops on the back of the armor.

Hey can I be added on? The missus and I are going to be coming to DragonCon and would love to come to the meetup.
 
So this year will also be my first time at Dragoncon. Is there good places to find out about themed photoshoots? Also what is fun to do there? I've watched a lot of the youtube cosplay videos and wondered what else was fun to do there, what wasn't, just some general advice. If you watch out for my group we will be in X-men cosplay

I only went last year for the first time and was not in costume, so others will know way more, but the short answer is...everything? aside from some of the best people watching ever, there's multiple HUGE convention areas full of top notch vendors, numerous panels, talks, people playing games, costumed karaoke, I'm a big fan of getting pictures of myself with various celebs, the parade, big parties at night, and I know there's no way I saw more than about 5%...it's just so big, with so much to do. Only real downside is that it's possibly the most crowded thing I've ever been to...and this is from a guy who lived in Manhattan all last year. Seriously TONS of people.

I'm starting to get excited. My pants and shirt arrived today for my Han solo costume and they turned out really well. Perfect fit. Just waiting on the Jacket now that I'm having made and I'll be all set.

I dunno about themed photo shots except for Saturday... I always hear about the HUGE DC and Marvel photo shoots but never really investigated the location. I have found Facebook and RPF to be good searching grounds for themed photo shoots though. But as a Cosplayer... a lot of photographers find you if you're trying to get exposure.

Most photo shoots are organized through forums or groups for specific fandoms. Most of the Doctor Who stuff is organized through the Prydon Academy forum (it's basically just a domain name, I think it gets like 20 posts a year) and the dw_cosplay livejournal. I'd recommend googling the fandom of your costume with the word dragoncon. I'm actually currently looking for Firefly stuff myself, because most of my costumes will be Firefly this year (Mal, Jayne, and Wash).

Btw Spoon, my girlfriend will also most likely be there. She's a member of the forum as well, but doesn't post and I think we'd both be hard pressed to remember her user name, haha. I don't think she needs a badge because they're basically for name recognition, which wouldn't do much for her.

King of Kittens, as has been said, there's a lot to do there. I don't do a lot. I dress up in costume, I drink, I look at awesome costumes, I do the parade usually, go to the aquarium if I have a relevant costume for cool pictures, and I drink. I have yet to get bored.
 
Long time no post for me, busy busy. But I'll be back this year! Bringing back Faora from Man of Steel for Saturday along with my bestie as my General Zod. Can't wait to see you all.

Maybe you could have some 'RPF' badges that don't have names? Or maybe a place where you can write your name if you want?

This thread makes me sad I won't be there. :(
 
I am going to be hitting a few photoshoots this year. if anyone is looking for a shoot where their costume would fit in, let me know and I can get you a time/location for it.

Love the idea, i think i will deffiantely will use your idea, for people that didn't reply...thank you so much for the idea...so sad you can not join us...until next year...

that's fine...i'll be there till tues morn, and i'm staying in the Marriott, you can tell me a time, or flag me down if you see me, i'll mostly be around the Marriott in costume...unless i'm walking around checking out other hotels and peoples costumes...
