Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Looking good, but what do you mean left the flaps? Also how do you do the incy wincy tiny flaps, they bug the hell out of me.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

@JUICE - Thanks man. Good to see you around here again.

@MykiiAmore - I left the Folding lines not flaps.

There is a setting to reduce them. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes it doesn't. I don't recommend it to newer people, it may warp the piece.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Yeah, it confused me like mad. I was like WTFmate! :p
So you going to say what those things were because you still have me stumped. I think I'll instantly love them when I know.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

@ MykiiAmore -They're just bolts for the helmet, upper chest, upper back flaps, elbows and boots.

as for updates. I pepped the shoulders last night.
Currently working on the Biceps at the moment.
I should have them done tonight or tomorrow night.

I think I'm gonna build some more parts before I have another Resin strengthening session, just so I know I have them all built and out of the way. I guess I'll finish all of the arms parts, then strengthen those before moving to the abs.

I did resin the bolt a little just to see how it would turn out strength wise. It's just taped on.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Sweet looking shoulder!
I cannot wait to see where these bolts play out.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

im curious about the bolts myself. seeing people do stuff like this is almost enough for me to go buy windows for mac and completely do the pep thing.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

sir stealth did you scale the parts or print them as they are?

I re scale everything to my proportions. Even if it means building it a few times. I don't need movie accurate proportions. I need proportions that look good on my frame.

are there any tutorials out there on scaling? i have a feeling with my thin build that i might have to do some when the time comes :$

do you pep then rescale sir stealth? oh btw thanks for the tip. :thumbsup

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Other at the 405th there a good few tutorials on Scaling.
Although, when I dabble with scaling myself I shall create a full VIDEO tutorial for everyone!

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

got the biceps done. Now onto the elbows, upper and main forearm sections.

Wow. I'm actually not too far from the finish.

I know some of you are probably sick of seeing pepped pieces lol but I stated in the first post.
I just wanted to post all progress to give transparency to the projcet.
Hope no one minds. It's more for a self journal I guess.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Um... not true. It's always inspiring to see well-done pep. :)

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Agree with WarPig here. I prefer to see that there is progress than a blank thread for a while and wondering if you have given up or disappeared!

Brilliant looking Biceps, the PEP isn't bad either :p

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Ok you do need to sleep sometime! "Damn you and your mutant pepping powers", looks great buddy, looking forward to the next piece!

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

Hey guys, I seen some of you are asking about scaling your pep...
There's a program created by one of the guys over on 405th that's extremely easy to use:

Pepakura Measuring and Scaling Tool by MrOreo123 v1.exe - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

All that's required is your height + about 4 inches I think.
Follow the prompts and it measures and calculates the scale based on your height for you.
All that's needed is a front on (or close to) image of whatever your wanting to create (say a photo of iron man from head to toe)
I recommend taking about 6 measurements of each part and using the average as a start, this program has worked wonders for myself and many others who make pep armor.
More info on this program and how to scale without a program are available on 405th

Also here is a link to instructions for scaling your stuff without the program, there are 3 easy to follow guides / methods.

How to Scale Your Armour- Tutorial V.2

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build

back again.

I gave all the arm parts a coat of resin on the outside. Now ready to glass them all.

I've already prepped the inside of all the parts with fiberglass, using spray adhesive. That way the small pieces stay put.

After this, I think I'm going to scratch build the abs, spine out of cardboard. Very low detailed though.
I think it's easier to do it that way and not pep it. Especially for sizing it around your core.
Just my opinion though,.
My scratch built ones could easily turn out lousy. So, we'll see.

I think it's overkill to pep those. I will use the file as a reference though.

the arms look great! Can't wait to see it finished!

but I don't think the helmet pep file you are using is very accurate.

(btw the helmet in the upper right hand corner is not of my helmet, its a pic of a recast from 1:1 bust)

I believe this is the most accurate iron man helmet replica pep file

i think the one you are using is the so called 101% accurate iron man helmet which really isnt. That one is a bit too squareish and less detailed in my opinion.

But the one you are using is fine if you're satisfied with it.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build (Update - March, 19, 2011)

I've seen people build that file. I'll agree, it's really accurate but it's really how you finish it afterwards,

People would say Finhead's helmet isn't the most accurate, since he used the dungbeelte file as a base. The thing is, people consider it one of the best helmets out there.

He made it his own and gave it such an awesome aggressive profile and added all his own details to it to the point where the file became a base.

It just looks right to me.

You could have the most accurate file out there.
Still won't matter if you have no idea what to do with it.

I've yet to see anyone finish that very accurate pep file to where it actually looks anything close to movie accurate when completed. I don't mean to sound like an ass saying that.

I'd actually really like to see one. :)

I would really love to see you make that helmet because I'm sure it would look fantastic!
