I'd say Lucas has something going on in his head but here's a simple fact-most "artists" are loony,go read about some of the big ones from the past ain't one of them was right in the head.
Huge creativity comes at the cost of sanity it seems.
Star Wars is space opera, Star Trek is space fantasy. Roddenberry might have fancied himself a hard sci-fi writer but that's not what he actually made.
