Doctor Who opinions

I've enjoyed this season but I'm actually hoping for something that we have not seen in I don't know how many years which is a fun episode where no one dies and no one is in danger. Lets explore space and time for the fun of it instead of the fate of the whole of space and time hanging in the balance.

I don't think that sort of episode exists- each one I can think of, old or new, has some sort of danger or threat, even if they arrive somewhene/somewhen just for sightseeing holiday.
Dr. Who is an adventure show, sometimes the preil is just for a single person, other times the Universe is at stake and all the range between. I am not sure if it was mentioned in the show or an interview, but I remember someone saying the TARDIS does not randomly malfunction at times when the Doctor is just traveling, it puts him where he is needed most. He/she may not know what is going on at first, but soon what is happening is made clear.
I also look upon the episodes as records of significant events- not every moment is full of danger or peril, but somehow the records of insignificant events, such as 'Doctor Who makes a sandwich' never seem to be broadcast...

Demons of Punjab might be my favorite episode so far of this season. It was literally an introduction to a historical event/time of which I had absolutely no knowledge. In the course of the episode made me care deeply about it and engendered a desire to learn more about it.

To my mind, that makes it a highly successful hour of television viewing.

I enjoyed it- a few call outs to the past and an unexpected reveal of the true villain.
My only negative was when the Doctor redirected the delivery-bots I feel there should at least been some sort of flicker as they transmatted out and returned.
I thought that was a very 9th doctor thing to do, she didnt even tell the guy to get back up there, the old guy was actually begging the terrorist janitor to. So yeah she pretty much killed him there .

She tried talking him out of his plan and he still chose to go ahead with his plan of mass murder. He knew he would kill thousands on innocent people- including children - I don't her one bit for allowing him to be 'hoist on his own petard'

I do agree it really fits #9's approach to things

Yeah I mean I dont either tbh. I said to my watching buddy after the show "he kind of did that to himself."

Anyway it seems that the showrunner and Jodie are having trouble doing 10 episodes a season at least aaccording to the latest rumor.

'Doctor Who': Jodie Whittaker, Chris Chibnall Rumored to Exit in 2019

The latest rumor is claiming she wont even get halfway through her second season and will regenerate.

Basically the showrunner might leave and Jodie wont stick around if the showrunner leaves.

I hope the report they're referencing is wrong. If Jodie leaves after so short a tenure, especially if she cites wanting to spend time with her kid, it's only going to fuel the misogynistic comments about women in the workplace not being able to handle pressure.

This Doctor has already faced an uphill battle being accepted in some facets of the fandom, if she doesn't stick around after Chibnall leaves, and has her incarnation have such a short tenure, I doubt we'll see another female Doctor.

I guess I can understand if he is not happy about how things are run behind the scenes but to say that he doesn't think it is possible to make 10 shows a season is just crazy. Other than a couple of years ago all the new Who series have been at least 12 show a year, sometimes more, and those showrunners didn't seem to have any problems with that.

good episode........
Except for the doctor excusing the robots for killing the girl,
to what.
show what the loss of a loved one felt like ????????

Its same double standard B.S. as the spider episode how dare you kill in a manner the doctor deems wrong, only kill in a manner the doctor approves of .

why do they keep hiring people for the doctor who quit seemingly immediately ?

why don't they just give up and have the doctor get some kind of time lord disease which the fix by constant regeneration and timey wimey manipulation (insert whatever here) so they can have a different person play the doctor every episode that way they cold hire big stars to play the doctor, every episode would be different and they could ruin the show completely once and for all .

The reason, reportedly, is because Chibnall can't stand the meddling by the BBC, which I don't blame him for. That's no way to run a TV show. This is what happens when your network is completely activist.

There is a possibility it is the Beeb's interference,....or it could be the bloke isn't that great,.....his previous submissions to the series before he became showrunner are very weak

It's disappointing, I had high hopes for this new direction

Yeah same I did too. I mean i like Jodie, its just I feel the writing does her a major disservice at times.

The question is, why is the writing bad? Is it because of Chibnall's direction or is it because of the BBC interference? Where is all of this coming from?

I was wondering the same thing and since a lot of us have had problems with the writing over the last few years I would say it is most likely BBC interference. Don't forget that some of the best new Who shows were written by Steven Moffat but after his first 2 years or so of his running the show things started going down hill and haven't really recovered, though there have been some really great individual shows including this year. That could also be the reason both Davies and Moffat eventually quit.

I only say that it's likely the BBC because the entire network is going hardcore SJW and we're seeing other shows getting the same treatment. If I was in charge of a show, if my name appeared on it week after week and I was being told by the brass to have an agenda, I'd quit too.

I'm a bit dubious,....it seams that it's easy for a writer/director to claim studio interference (DC/WB, Sony, etc)....but BBC still produces fantastic programmes, Killing Eve, Luther, Bodyguard etc

If it is BBC's interference, maybe someone with a bit of backbone is needed to push their ideas through

Latest episode is a fun sci-f take on the Pendle witch trials.
Another great episode, I really enjoyed it, especially the portrayal of King James.
I'm liking this show lot more than I thought I would, considering I wasn't actually planning to watch it all.

"No no no- it is not witchcraft! They are just being possessed by alien mud-creatures..."
Fun episode

The stories may not be the best written, but they are still better than a lot of what Capaldi was handed...

I do find the fact a season of ten shows is a struggle rather funny- it could be a result of wanting to film just about all but one episode on location. It does seem to be a trend on modern television to have fewer shows (and long gaps in the middle of a season). In the sixties average seasons had over twenty...

A lot of the much earlier seasons of Who were mostly 6 episodes. Thats been a British standard season run for as long as I can remember.
10 episodes is a good run, it'll do for me.
