Doc's foam/fiberglass work + Mark 42 painted pieces

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

The large parts were the bottoms of beer cans, then inside that I glued a fridge magnet, then ontop a small 'trim piece' from a set of flat pack shelves, like a rubber grommit. Easy as!

lol cool, real creative gotta try that thanks:)

Great gloves! I'm working on the JOWE glove and it's not working out. I know you used the files from Zabana's as modified by STEALTH's files, but what is the base layer you have here? I see three layers through the repulsor hole. Is it a full hand glove with layers pasted on top? Bit confused looking at your glove and the files… not quite working out in the brain. Lemme know soon… Halloween approacheth quickly!

Sending you this message PM as well.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

Ive been using the same xacto blade for a long time. Everyhere I work on my builds i carry my sharpin stone. It takes practice but i just angle my blade n slice it for the angle cuts. I think those foam board cutters r kinda rippoff all ya need to do is practice cutting in an angle and soon it'll be like second nature:)

True. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never need angular cutting tools anymore.

And I gotta say doc, you need to finish that mk7 ASAP to work back on your WM! :thumbsup Judging from the pic, I can say the helmet misses you :love

Yo Doc!
I couldn't have gotten this sick finish on the suit without your methods of madness
Only have the arm/back to finish painting up
I'm only rockin' the top half of the suit for barhopping/parties and such this weekend

lol i did, cool and yea that metal specks is pretty awesome esoecially after a coat of clear:)

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

not gonna lie, you saved me on this one doc! that red is absolute!
in warm indoor lighting its got a maroon metalflake look.
outdoors in the sun its got a glowing red sparkle
and in flourescent it is a very vibrant red
looks best after a camera flash, it brings out the deep red and sparkles. and imo matches the mark vii suit APPROPRIATELY without looking too gaudy

unfortunately humidity has been a problem so i cant apply that triple thick glaze right now. im hoping i can today, yest it was just "pure gray cloudy glaze"

and for anyone thats curious. the paint process is the most expensive part of this build, so save your money in preparation ive gone through 3-1/2 cans of plastidip, 3 cans of adhesion, 3 cans of primer, 3 cans of dupli specks, 1 half can of sunburst gold, 1 can of dupli chrome (havent used yet), 2 cans of triple thick glaze. Either im wasteful when it comes to painting, or im just overdoing it. :p

do you know an optimal humidity percent to spray in?

EDIT: hey doc. any experience glazing or glossing base coats without a clear coat?
just in case i cant lay a coat of clear, i still want it to be glossy. I have a nice collection of 3M detailing products and one product in particular is the 3M hand glaze. its like wax but doesnt harden it fills in light scratches and gives a depth coat of clear but can be washed off easy unlike a wax.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

I agree with you on the paint, Torx. I just wrapped up my suit last night and in total have gone through 9 cans of Dark Cherry Metallic, 2 cans of Sunburst Gold, 1 can of Charcoal Silver, 6 cans of Rustoleum White Vinyl paint and 6 cans of Rustoleum 2X Gloss Clear. At $7.50/can for the Duplicolor paint, it adds up quick!

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

yup it can get expensive, but a paint job can make ir break the suit so thats why I'm willing to spend little extra maybe alot extra lol to put the cherry on top of my hard work:D

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

Doc, looks great as usual!

Hey, take a look at my thread when you get the chance. Got the suit done at the last minute and won a local costume contest! Wouldn't have been done in time if it weren't for your painting method. Thanks again man! Now on to the next suit! We'll be talking soon I'm sure!
