They are not supposed to touch. If they did then the clamps would not be able to create the friction/pressure to tightly hold the scope and it may slide around. Beautiful work BTW!
Came out great!
DMachinist for the work and all the people who contributed to the research for the most accurate parts! You all are wonderful people!

Loved putting this together! Dream come true!
One concern I have - maybe someone could shed light on this - the scope mount clamps do not touch the scope mount when screwed down, they are tightened as far as they can go.
Any insight?

Can I ask how you finished this???...
Oh, man. I don't think I can get into it; no one man has the attention span to handle the epic tale of fits and frustration that I had putting this together. The short or it is: a lot of trial and error.
Here are some keynotes: Didn't bother sanding Denix, I had worn the finish down to the point where I liked it and just cut the barrel and sanded the hump in the back down so the bull barrel sits properly on it; blued the barrel and flash hider first, drilled a hole in the barrel so the thumbscrew sits flush on the flash hider, filed the trigger and trigger guard, cut one of the threaded rods shorter (the back) so they look somewhat flush when put together, had to blue the cast pieces twice and ended up darkening the final color over an open flame (it really works!), grill and bar mount is painted with spray paint, used "English Chestnut" Minwax stain and sealant for the grips, oven cleaner for the brass bits, Permablue for pewter, Aluminium Black for aluminium.
Mostly no powertools so it all took a really long time.
I don't suppose there are any kits left.
Wow!!!!
Thanks.
That sounds like a lot of work.
Maybe I will also get the Pre prepared Mauser they offer.
Or maybe snag a MR and call it good.
Thanks again
Tom
If you like putting stuff together like I do, the kit's not a bother. My lack of skill and experience working/bluing metal is something else entire but I saw this a good an opportunity to gain some new skills and, for me, no price can be put on the joy of learning something yourself.
The joy of understanding: that is the most noble of all pleasures. Feathers will lift man, as they do birds, up to Heaven.
I must stop now, my soup's getting cold.
This is my Blaster from DEC's 2nd run. It's a real nice kit. Of course I had to put sound in it as well.

Firstly, I gently scuffed all the parts with 0000 Steel Wool to promote better adhesion of paint. All parts were then washed in soapy water. Can I ask how you finished this???
Thanks
Tom
