I'm not sure how light the knurling is on your scope bells, I can see it nicelly on the photos on the previous post but the knurling on my real bells seems quite light too.
Sorry to hear about the other issues you have with your parts though

Bells are fine! It's the ring around the body.

Oh man, yeah the knurling tool didn't grab correctly on that locking ring. I'd tell Field Marshall about it, maybe he can send you a replacement locking ring?

It’s all one assembly - so it’ll be a new scope. (And I had done destructive work on it already before I noticed). Not the end of the world, when work opens up again I can take it to the tool room for them to put in a deeper knurl. Takes 5 mins!

Few bits and bobs for the weekend:

- Vintage M9 flash hider
- Painted and weathered scope mount - needs a little dirtying for me to be happy.

I’m still waiting for the scope to fully dry and will begin assembly of that this week. The scope mounts are slowly making their way from the US.

I’ve also been working on the heat sink. The one provided doesn’t really fit the C96 copy well so I’ve utilised some of Engineers friend, Milliput. I’m using this to get a good seal around the body of the Mauser then will repaint it to blend into the heat sink and adhere it on! Easy peasy.

Problems to still overcome:
- what to do with the inside of the scope... I don’t like seeing screws in there, so so I stick a magnifying glass in there or do I block it off!

I have this same replica scope, I agree that the screws poking through to the inside of the scope isn't ideal, I wish they were blind-tapped but I'm assuming the thickness didn't allow for it?

Also, since I've opted for the un-anodized version I've been wondering about the best way to cover the bare aluminum inside of the scope. I've thought about masking the outside of the scope and running some aluminum black through it. Any thoughts on a good way to go about doing this?

Aluminium black would be a good way of doing it I think. It will not go properly Matt black however without a good buff which might be hard to do. So the next option is painting?

You can always aluminium black THEN paint.

Managed to do a bit of assembly today. Still waiting on my scope rings but they are taking their time coming from the US and rightfully so.

This it a big boy!

Unfortunately the scope rings managed to scratch a lot of the lacquer off the scope..

I’m not happy with the scope. I think it has far more potential then I’ve used now. I’ve poured over images of real scopes and they all have a certain look.

Things I plan on doing:
- Sort that knurling out
- Sand blast the scope, etch prime and paint in a far more durable and glossy way. This lacquer is not durable enough for my liking.
- sort out those screws on the inside
- work out some ‘fake’ magnifying look. Or block it off.

No rest for the wicked! Re-knurled the scope, much cleaner and deeper. Cleaned it off and then etch primed it.

What do you do when you have too much time on your hands and you can't get bits shipped from the US?


Drew up this thumb knob and will hop on the lathe and mill this week to get two of these made. Weaver uses a really odd thread so im opting to swap it for an M3 thread and so will have to make some new cross bolts.

Little more progress:
- After viewing someone else thread, I've reshaped the scope mount bar and am repainting it currently.
- Worked up some custom tooling for the weaver mounts and had a practice to get going! Came out well I think
- Machined some new cross bolts for the weaver mounts with an M3 Thread.

Some might ask - why machine these if they can be easily found online? Well, the current shipping situation makes it near impossible for US deliveries (my ones I ordered a month ago are still making their way to me, but have stopped for a few weeks now). Secondly, Its a bit of fun and a challenge on the lathe

Finished! Put a magnifying glass in the scope to give it that feel as well as some little cross hairs. Scope has also been etch primed, satin black and then lacquered and polished to get a hard and glossy finish. Light weathering all round.

The whole thing has a light pass with some weathering fluid to get some ‘grime’ in the screw cracks and such, adds more realism to it I feel.

I re-did the scope bracket and filed the edge down near the flash hider as per the images of the real prop!

I'm guessing it's just based off the new versions and not the classic ANH version. Any opinions on whether it's a good deal or not?

Its in no way accurate to the Hero ANH DL-44 - correct 'look' but all the details are wrong. However I believe it was used as the base for the SOLO ASWS Blaster so with some modifications it'd be good for that if you were going for accuracy. People seem happy with them as good, inexpensive display pieces but they are not accurate to the ANH Hero or TFA.
