Part of the new EU deactivation spec is the glue or weld the mag plate and the locking block into place, that way it can’t be stripped. Cocks, dry fires and working safety/ bolt but can’t be disassembled.

No GLUE on new EU spec deacs... ;)

Love your build.
Which mount did you use...DEC?

Whatever they did, it’s not coming apart (and not noticeable thankfully)!

It’s a DEC full steel kit (apart from the cross bar). So his mount is a steel machined Mount. Worth every penny!

Out of the blue last week, someone offered to sell me a Hensoldt Scope! I snapped it up right away and It arrived today! Needs a bit of work but I never shy away from such things...

Ive already painted and weathered a DEC Upper Dial to replace the smooth one. Was there ever a combination of diamond upper and straight lower?

Following a recent acquisition of a Vintage M19 Scope, I’ve decided to carry out another build On a deactivated pre-wartime C96 Mauser. This will be Han Solo ESB Bespin.

The Mauser itself is in good condition with a lot of the parts without rust and pitting. It’s has a decent finish which I think represents the grime found on the ESB blasters but some parts could do with a clean (hammer, trigger, bolt, sight).

This is to new EU deactivation standards so it can’t dry fire but it can field strip, making it easier for me to put those holes in and tap them!

The grips look like reproduction grips, so I’d like to upgrade those to something more original as these grips are really off dimensionally and have too few lines. I’ve spoken to DL-44 King, Field Marshall, who said he might be doing some walnut grips to fit his new CNC machined C96, so I may pick some of those up when the time comes.

The scope itself is in ok condition. Someone’s drilled out the threaded mounts so they’ve been filled with metal epoxy and I’ll be drilling and re-tapping those. The light port looks like it’s been cut short so I *may* perform some reconstructive surgery to a full port.

I have some parts coming over from Germany (Boba Debt Scope Mount and Flash hider) so this should be a fairly quick build!

Does anyone know if the ESB blasters were painted or were they just natural bluing?

How is the scope in real life? Is it as good as it says it is on the store? I have had that on my shopping list for ages but have been uncertain on whether I should buy it.

Both the scopes above are real vintage scopes..... if there’s a store which is selling them you may have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Few jobs done today on the Mauser:

I ground off the top sight, sanded and replied it ready for the flash hider.

The parts which should be plain steel I removed, soaked in BC rust and blue removed and did several passes with wire wool. Really cleaned them up nicely and think it helps with the overall finish.

I filled in the milled slot with some Bondo, sanded and then painted with a pass of graphite powder. This came out really well and it’s very hard to see this detail now.

I machined a little aluminium spacer to help with the recoil spring, which had been cut short leading to some play in the bolt action and the bolt lock to rattle about. This worked perfectly.

I’ve ordered a set of grips from ‘Numrich’ in the US. They’re reproduction grips but look pretty spot on and I know they’re smaller than the denix frame (the ones readily available and marketed for a C96 are actually a lot larger and no way suitable). Hopefully they should fit ok!

Remainder of the DL-44 ESB parts arrived today! There is a clear difference between the C96 and the denix! The flash hider can pass all the way through!

I’ll need to machine some aluminium or Delrin spacers so sit in between to wedge down.

Slowly but surely this is coming together.

The grips from the US didn’t work so I’ve just bought some originals to use on it.

I’ve machined an internal spacer for the Flash Hider but I need to grind some of the barrel off the C96.

I’ve worked a little on the mount, drilling some pin holes and widening the holes for the screw mounts.

Finally, I’ve done some ‘reconstructive’ surgery on the scope. I cleaned up the radius of the light port and turned and soldered on an extra piece which was removed from this scope. Finally I weathered it back down to look as it should do!

Various bits and bobs done today including re-making the scope mount for Luke Bespin and making it a little wider to what I see from the reference images. I drilled and tapped the C96 and sandblasted all the painted bits ready for the black coat.

It was tested as a dry run and it all went ok! Painting and assembly shortly.

I also took some time to work on my Hensoldt. I disassembled it and removed the mounts. I then put it in the lathe and sanded the silver solder off, before removing the pits, re-blueing and assembling the scope. Bingo! Pristine ish looking Hensoldt! Even managed to reclaim some of the writing.
