Disney says no more R rated Marvel movies

Well, they SAY that now, but once they realize that certain movies are best served with an R-rating (such as Deadpool and Blade) and that to do otherwise will affect the levels in their coffers, I imagine things will change. After all, this isn't the Disney that Walt built. Like any other company, the Almighty Dollar is the ultimate decision-maker in the Executive Boardroom.

I'm not sure much needs to change with Marvel movies. Really, what would be added by making it R rated. I'd suggest they just keep their R rated stuff on Netflix. It seems to be doing well enough.

It just means they will make R-rated movies with an odd lack of blood & F-bombs, and wearing PG-13 ratings.

god i can't think of any disney r rated movies??!! which ones were R rated?

Disney also owns Touchstone, Miramax and Hollywood Pictures – It's possible they will simply release the films, if any, under those banners, not the "Disney" banner.

I didn't read that as a "Never! Perish the thought!"

I read it as: "unlike the monkeys at DC, we did not decide to start making all of them R just because one movie made it work and were desperate"

The ones currently on deck are planned as pg or pg13 And that didn't change suddenly. Maybe in the future a script will call for it, but those currently in the works don't.

That's why they created the Touchstone division.

Any way the quote was, "We don’t have any plans to make R-rated Marvel movies."

That doesn't mean never. It just means none of the films currently in the pipe are R-rated.

And it's not like they put out the marvel movies under the disney banner either. I'd have to check the end credits, but they - at worst - do what they did with Star Wars, a single line at he very end saying distributed by disney. The Marvel movies are made under the marvel banner. Star Wars, the LFL banner.

And as for his quote - people jump the gun really quick....he did not say 'there will never be an R rated marvel flick'...he said, they have no plans to do one. The current plans go, what? 1-2 past the Infinity Wars? So, nothing on the current slate is planned as being R rated is all you can really take from it.

I didn't know there was going to be an R rated BvS cut for BR....may not go to the theater, but i'll have to check that out. Someone probably says a certain dirty word...

The joke's on us: the next Hulk movie, "The Incredible Hulk Bites Peoples' Heads Off for Two Hours," will be rated NC-17.

Technically, that's still not "R-rated." Just sayin'.

Blade and Deadpool are owned by other companies, though. Well, Deadpool is. I'm not sure if the rights to Blade reverted back. It wouldn't surprise me if they did, since Blade was with New Line Cinema.

Blade, Ghost Rider, and Punisher reverted to Marvel in 2013.

Haven't seen DD yet, but i'm pretty sure Jessica Jones woulda notched an R if it was a movie. So, there are always other avenues.

More reason not to give Disney any of my money. I don't want to see a Pg13 Punisher film. Guess we have to just rely on Fox to give us Deadpool more and more.

You haven't even read my script for "Punisher 5: Kindergarten Kop" yet.

I think what will happen is the shareholders or others Disney Execs are going to see the final box office numbers for Deadpool and tell that guy "Now hold on a minute..."
