Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

As long as Disney doesn't crap on the fans with regards to them enforcing intellectual property rights (and stifle costuming and prop communities) then they can do whatever they like with the franchise as far as I'm concerned.

I hadn't thought about that! The Mouse has sharp teeth :confused

Then you lose w/e you were betting with.

Georgie already said this has been in the plans for 1.5 years.

i'm not betting anything and i'm not here to argue with you. i still say if they aren't starting to videotape (lol) as early as yesterday, you'll likely not see anything until at least 2016.

I think they're farther along than we believe right now. I mean, the story's been being worked on for over a year, no leak. The buyout discussion have had to have been going on over a year, no leak. I think it's safe to say that there's no way for us to know where exactly they are in the process. I don't think they'd throw out 2015 just for the hell of it. I think it was part of the buyout criteria from when the process began 1-2 years ago.

If they start filming within the first half of 2013 it can definitely be released in 2015. Revenge of the Sith started started filming on June 30th, 2003 and was released in May of 2005.

They can shoot later than that as long as 3/4 of it isn't CGI. They needed 18+ months for the effects in the prequels. Knock that number down and you've got more wiggle room.

That would be really awesome, but it sounds too good to actually be true, so I won't get my hopes up.

"...especially for those who hold the original trilogy in high regard, they should be happy. You can expect lovingly restored prints of the original trilogy to surface in the near future. That's a no brainer. I along with the rest of the world want those movies in their original glory. Disney are all over that, believe me. "

Whoa.

Amazing interest in this topic. At the current rate (based on rough math in my head), by the time 2015 gets here, this thread will be like 3900 pages long! :confused

That's the bit that gives me reason to doubt the whole article to be honest.

Name a decision disney forced upon pixar or Marvel? I'm not saying there aren't any, but I don't know of any.

Their behavior with regards to these large scale purchases has been pretty much hands off. They bought them because they liked what they were doing and felt the investment would bring a big return and that it could be used to enhance their parks, etc.

Saying 'disney is all over it' would imply that they're dictating business practice to LFL which i'd find hard to believe and troubling if true. OTOH, i suppose if george changed his mind about 7-9, maybe he took the criticism to heart finally and had a change of heart on the original releases as well.

No way, Lucas likely put it in the agreement they couldn't touch those.

Why? All he's said was that he wouldn't fund it. The notion that "Disney are all over that" reads to me that they may be funding the restoration, which was what Lucas didn't want to do. If they fund it, why would Lucas object?

I'm trying hard not to make an assumption either way. In fact I'm trying hard just to forget that I read it in the first place. Only time will tell.

Simply because he has been so adamant about which versions are out there and see's the Blue-Ray release as THE definitive and official cut of the films. Besides, to be honest the market out there for the original films is relatively small and likely not worth the cost of doing a restoration.
