Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

Interesting. I loved the first book and the second was amusing at times, I will have to check this out.

Liked the books and the last TV series as well. Interesting they're doing it again, but as - for lack of a better word - a reboot.

Again?

A reboot Hitch Hikers TV Series,...thats what I want.......all the way through the 6 Novels

J

Not sure how much this will have to do with the books apart from the characters but I am still looking forward to anything related to Dirk Gently

I actually loved the first book more than the Hitchhiker's "Trilogy". Everytime I read it I catch things I didn't before

The book actually started out as a Dr Who episodes written by Adams - "City of Death" and Shada (which got cancelled due to a strike)

He removed the trademark Dr Who stuff and reworked it a bit, but the same basic premise is there

It was a 3 episode series on BBC something like 5 years ago. This version has yet to premeire. So it's very easy to have not known of either before.

Did anyone see the premier on Saturday?

Really not much of anything to do with the books, other than a reference to a missing cat , and that he had previous cases involving a sofa incident and he met Thor.

So I doubt we'll be seeing anymore related to the two books.

All though there does appear to be a time machine as Todd runs into himself when the elevator doors open and he is listening to himself talking about not knowing a time machine was involved

It's pretty much a bare bones framework loosely based on the Dirk Gently character

They introduced a lot in that episode.

What do people think? The reviews are mixed, but it seems those who don't really care for it are those who wished it followed the spirit of the source material more. Anyone here had a chance to get caught up and want to share their thoughts?

I'm not sure yet. While I wish it was more true to the source material, I am not opposed to the direction they are going.

It was a lot to take in and there was no real payoff so its hard to tell at this point with only that one episode. I think that's why much of the bad reviews. Basically we were introduced to a bunch of "unconnected" stuff that seems pretty random and no resolution to any of it, or even why we need to care about any of it. In a way though, that kind of is the perfect intro for the premise, It just is hard to draw you in though since it lacks much focus.

I like what they are setting up though. I need to see a few more episodes to see how it starts playing out. See how these things connect

The idea of a "Holistic assassin" was pretty amusing

After that last episode I have come to really like the series and where it has gone. It was a slow build but things have started to pay off

That armored suit was pretty cool

Anyone else watching?

I would like Max Landis to explain to me how this girl...

Farah Black, isn't a "Mary Sue", but Rey is...

I'd love to hear it.

I definitely didn't get the feeling that Farah was intuitively good at everything, in fact i thought she got into the most trouble out of everyone, or possible had the least idea what was going on during the series.

I loved this show. Roll on series (on UK Netflix) :)

Loved this series. Wish it had been set in the UK. BBC America produced shows need to be either english or american, the blend is a bit wishy-washy.

I thought the show was a lot of fun. Gordon, in particular, was great, but I will freely admit that was, in large part, because I know Aaron was just having so much fun with the role. It's not every day that a production lets an actor dictate so much about how the character looks and sounds and he definitely went all in on it. :D

Ah but did you catch what his character is based on?

You'd need to be familiar with Max Landis and his new Redlettermedia buddies.
