Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Helios Models and lighting has hands down the best Enterprise-D kit out there, it's probably around $2,000 when you add in the lighting kit and decals, and it's enormous at 1/650 scale. But I don't think you can get it any longer. It was a limited production run. They're now doing an Enterprise-B/Excelsior kit in a number of different scales, but I think you can only order through their Facebook page.

Holy mother of God, that is glorious!!

Words escape me, how did I not know about this before?! Are they really not making it anymore? It's still on their website. My wife will murder me but I must have one!

The only thing I can recommend is to email them and ask. If not, there's always the Enterprise-B/Excelsior kit.

I'm building my own, but yes, if you commission it out (Andrew from Canadian Starships is building two for other people!), that will definitely add to the cost. It's expensive, but I wouldn't say it's overpriced.

There aren't a lot of pieces to the kit. The upper and lower saucers are complete pieces, the neck and upper secondary hull are a single piece, the lower hull is separate, and there's both a cast armature for the neck and saucer and a metal plate for structural integrity. It's really well done. But I'm going to let some others build it first and watch their videos before tackling it!

Anyway, apologies for derailing the thread. I'm definitely excited about the TOMY Refit after bailing out of the TOS model.
Ok it looks like a lot of work. And at that price point not over priced. I agree I bailed out of the TOS model and am looking forward to the refit as well.

I could not find anything about kits on their website. Real interested in the Excelsior. My baby.

There will be a flat fee of $50 per replica for shipping for all backers. Shipping will be charged at the same time as your pledge, so there will only be a single payment.
We'll add this info to our upcoming FAQ and campaign FAQ as well.
For anyone outside the US/Canada wanting to estimate the cost for parcel forwarding, we're working to get package dimension estimates soon and will share them as soon as possible.

I still can't believe we are getting the refit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Likewise, it's incredibly exciting. The TOS Enterprise is nice and all, but this is the one I really wanted all along. The Refit, the Reliant and the Enterprise D are the nicest Trek ships imo, with the Refit the nicest of them all, so it's a dream come true to be getting one.

So close. Like all great marksmen, which you are, sometimes the target is still missed.

It goes:

Excelsior

Refit

Enterprise E

Enterprise F

I realize some may disagree with this and I would agree with them if they were right.   (y) (y) (y)

I'm going to get crucified for saying this but...I never liked the Enterprise D. I know I know, I'm insane.

Things I don't like:
1. More 'alien' looking, oval shaped saucer.
2. The overabundance of windows.
3. The oval shaped nacelles and thinner side grilles.
4. The curved 'wing' nacelle support.
5. The nacelles positioned below the line of the saucer rather than above.
6. The oval shaped secondary hull and long-range sensor.
7. The bridge. I don't like the split navigation console, officer chairs, and elevated railing.

I realize all these features probably make sense in the evolution of the ship's design. Unfortunately, I still don't like it.

The Refit is the perfect version with TOS a hair behind.

I'll understand if I'm permabanned for my heresy

So the D isn't my favorite (Team Ambassador) but I'm always amazed how far from the Constitution the Galaxy is, in a good way. I don't think you'd get that kind of courage from the design team today.

No worries. The D is down on my list. I like it and I am getting the Fanhome because it's huge and I love TNG so much, but it's not near my top.

Excelsior will always be my favorite.

Enterprises:

Refit
E
F
B
TOS
D

But I love them all. Even the NX, although the later one with the drive section is much cooler.

The G is wrong. It should have stayed the Titan-A. It earned it's own rep and should be respected. I love the design, more advanced refit, but hard no to re-naming it Enterprise.

It’s the best commercial model in this size at this price point warts and all. Factory Entertainment has a 15k model you may be interested in.

And the worst of those warts can be pretty easily addressed; I’ve already seen even straightforward Fanhome D builds with no light leaks and diffused nacelle lighting.

You get what you pay for (though complete Fanhome builds are already showing up for a lot less than the total subscription price). But the difference in “toy-like-ness” between the Fanhome model, and a professionally built large-scale D, if you can even find one, is less than that between one of those Tomy ships (unless they really up their game on the refit; I'll believe that when I see it) and a professionally built Polar Lights 1/350 scale model.

To each their own, but I don't really want toy-like science fiction models, unless they are a throw-back to my 'yute'.

All of this. The TOMY offerings are fine,if that is your thing. The metal does not make up for the gaps that are inherent in the process of making these. Don’t get me started on the partworks D. Again as collectors of toys/statues/cllectables great. As a model builder, I can’t, but that’s the great part, we have choices nowadays! It’s a Renaissance of sci fi dust catchers!
