Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

This time they probably won't keep reducing the crowd funds initial goal. So for example... if it calls for 5k to be made to support the fund. That's what it as to be or it won't be made. So no lower like they did last time.
Yeah I agree. I don’t see any reason why they won’t make their goal. The enthusiasm seems of the charts for this one…plus Canada is involved in the sales. And the people who missed out on the TOS want the refit badly…no missing this one this time around.

I can't think of another time a film has dwelled so much on a prop with those long reveal shots. I guess the production knew the fans REALLY loved the a Enterprise. I would have happily watched 2 hours of shots flying around that model.

I wish First Contact had done the same as The Motion Picture with showing us the new Enterprise.

How about 2001? They had some pretty long beauty shots of the ships. The docking scene is one of my all time favorite scenes in movie history. Blade runner too does some pretty long beauty shots. But the Motion Picture dry dock scene is by far my most favorite of all time! :)

I wonder if the reason they had the nacelles a bit low was in moving away from Kimble plans—Art Asylum’s choice.

Case in point

I’d actually love to hear more about this . I’ve had the art asylum versions since the early 2000’s and I vaguely seem to remember that they may have used digital scans employed by a vfx company that was redoing some of the effects for the TMP DVD. That vfx company had unprecedented access to the filming model before it went up for auction .

I always found it somewhat remarkable that the art asylum mold itself seemed as accurate as it is . They couldn’t slather it in Aztec paint presumably due to complexity and cost but it features remarkable amount of molded Aztec detail throughout the whole ship ; quite a reasonable compromise considering the technical limitations at the time and the fact that it was like a $25-$30 toy. It honestly seems pretty darn accurate besides obvious compromises like the pylons being thicker due to structural reinforcement. . The art asylum team really did their research and I’m sure were consulted by some subject matter experts

Latest update.

Our design team has confirmed that the answers below are accurate. We’re looking forward to sharing more photography of the prototype in future updates, so keep watching this space.

I liked the base of the TOS model. Can TOMY do a similar base for this model?

The base is specifically designed to securely hold a replica weighing over 20lbs. It also contains the power source and USB-C charging port (Cord not included) and light modes controls. Those are the main reasons why it looks different from the TOS base.

The base looks like it tilts the replica at an angle I don’t like. Why was it designed this way?

In the production model, the starship will sit level and not be tilted.

Will this replica require a support structure like the TOS model did?

The base design might change a little to accommodate the heavy ship. The use of a saucer support might be necessary, as it was for the TOS model.

Are the hot spots on the nacelles going to be eliminated or diffused in the production model?

The blue lights in the nacelles will be diffused in the production model.

Will the SURAK Shuttlecraft be able to dock with the ship?

Yes, the SURAK Shuttlecraft will be able to dock with the Enterprise when removed from the Warp Sled.

Does this model have a shuttle bay that opens?

This model features a Detailed Hangar Deck. Like TOMY’s TOS Enterprise production piece, the doors can be removed.

Does the Detailed Hangar Deck have interior details?

TOMY’s TMP Hangar Deck will replicate the hangar Deck from the movie but will not include any shuttlecraft, pods, or people.

Does it require batteries or a power outlet?

It is USB-C powered (cord not included). No batteries needed!

LOVE these two pics! When the interior is lit I’m sure it will look fantastic!

Man, they are super insistent about that cord not being included (cord not included).

I'm happy that they managed to get a partial hangar bay in there, even if it's not the whole hangar/cargo bay structure.

Different cord lengths would be needed depending on where a buyer would be able to plug it in !

I wonder if they could drop a false perspective image in there, or whether that would just look naff? (apologies to JNordgren42 for stealing a pic from his amazing build)
Someone suggested that on the TOMY + webpage. Hopefully they’ll see it and listen.

They have indicated no major changes or add ons. If they started adding on all of our wants it would never get to production.
Very true but some changes have been addressed as making the Enterprise level on the stand…we all hated the weird downward angle or at least the majority…and better light diffusion in the nacelles which they said will address. I would like to see a false extension in the hangar deck. If not no biggie but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

I posted your pic…JNordgren42…hope you don’t mind…on the TOMY + page as a consideration for the TOMY Team. So far getting some very very positive reactions. Thank you for the pic. I hope TOMY considers it. I hope the fans can convince them.
