Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

With lights on. I think I'll call Tomy tomorrow and send them the pics. See what they say. I'll probably open the other one to inspect it just in case. Thanks for everyone's replies on this.

Mine looks similar to that too. Honestly, I didn't really notice until I lit mine up again in the dark. So, thanks a lot for pointing that out and making me fixate on another issue.

Most (all?) of the ones I've seen on YouTube have some separation and light bleed too. Just check out the vids where folks have 'em lit up in the dark...

I think your deflector dish is fine too - think you just need to get it seated and lined up with a hard turn.

But hey, I could be totally wrong and it's your model. If you have two just carefully open the other box and check to see if it's similar on both fronts...

They all seem to have some universal and varying "flaws"...
I finally opened the second one. Good news the gap is better than the first one and the dish assembly went on very easily. Bad news the light at the end of the hull doesn't work. That one will have to go back. I contacted Dan at Tomy he said to ship it back " in whatever is convenient for you". Seems odd, kind of like they don't care what condition they receive it in. He also said they would not return the original foam so I'm hesitant to send it in that. I did ask if he could send an empty box with packing to return it in but haven't heard back yet. Communication is kind of slow.

At this point I'm keeping the first one with the gap at least until I get the second one with the light out replaced.

I did get the reflector assembly on the first one by twisting harder than it seemed I should. Unfortunately the center spike popped off. It's in one piece so it shouldn't be hard to reattach.

Do you have an email for Dan? I can’t get a reply from customer support. Thanks!

Do

I just called the phone number on the card that came in the box. They gave me the email address. Probably nothing wrong with posting it here but just in case, message me.

The more I hear about these problems, the more thankful I am that mine arrived in more or less perfect condition. It has some incredibly minor blemishes, and one of the engineering hull plugs sits at an awkward angle, but otherwise it's fine.

As far as I've read as well no one got a completely perfect Enterprise. Mine isn't perfect too but thankfully the paint and alignments are all good for me. The usual light leaks exist but hardly noticeable. Overall still a great piece.

I "got the call" as it were. I'd left my name on the wait list. I have a constellation class starship warping to me as we speak. and with my luck most likely Matt Decker at the helm.

I thought about it a minute and called back and asked if there was a wait list to the wait list, to get first pick of the leftovers of the leftovers-- I was informed that they under no circumstances will be taking any more names.

I bet if anyone wants a replacement at this point they will be out of luck...

Is anyone considering distressing their ship to create a faithful USS Constellation?

i was today years old when i learned the screen-used USS constellation was an AMT model they took a torch to.

you'd need one hell of a torch to distress die-cast metal like that, no? can you sculpt molten metal to match the original or would that be added on with putty or something?

Update on Tomy replacement of my engineering section:
I received the replacement "lower hull assembly" as they call it, on Friday. It was absolutely the right choice to return the one I had with the wobbly nacelles. The replacement was sent to me in the original box (although they treated the art box like it was unimportant to keep it looking new). I could tell they left the lower hull untouched as they pulled the rest of the parts out, because the tissue paper under and around that part of the ship had not been disturbed as it would if they had removed it from the foam at any point. I thought they might try to make sure replacements didn't have issues as well before shipping, but clearly they don't. Thankfully, not only were the nacelles attached tightly with zero play, the seams down the side of each nacelle splitting the pennant were as tight as any I've seen in photos others have posted online. The screw plugs are mostly flush, seated no better or worse than on my original hull section. Overall, despite the time and energy it took to make the exchange, it was unquestionably worth it.

If you think your ship has a genuine defect or a poor workmanship issue, contact Tomy. They will ask for photos/ video of the problem and if your complaint is valid, they will replace the parts involved. If they only set aside 50 extra ships like they told me, that's less than 2% of the total so I wouldn't wait too long to act.⁷7

Yeah my replacement lower hull was much better then the first as well. As I mentioned earlier the dorsal neck on the replacement had a little play to it but nothing worth returning. When I put the saucer on its solid. So they have had 50 saucers and 50 lower hulls available. Yeah not a lot. I bet they blew through half of each at this point ...

Oh, I forgot the most surprising thing to me was discovering the bussard collectors on my original hull were possibly defective as well. It only had 2 speed positions for the spinning motors in the bussard collectors while the replacement has 3 speed positions for the motors after the initial lights only setting is turned on.

I wonder what we will all do once the electronics go out on these things...?
