With lights on. I think I'll call Tomy tomorrow and send them the pics. See what they say. I'll probably open the other one to inspect it just in case. Thanks for everyone's replies on this.
I finally opened the second one. Good news the gap is better than the first one and the dish assembly went on very easily. Bad news the light at the end of the hull doesn't work. That one will have to go back. I contacted Dan at Tomy he said to ship it back " in whatever is convenient for you". Seems odd, kind of like they don't care what condition they receive it in. He also said they would not return the original foam so I'm hesitant to send it in that. I did ask if he could send an empty box with packing to return it in but haven't heard back yet. Communication is kind of slow.Mine looks similar to that too. Honestly, I didn't really notice until I lit mine up again in the dark. So, thanks a lot for pointing that out and making me fixate on another issue.
Most (all?) of the ones I've seen on YouTube have some separation and light bleed too. Just check out the vids where folks have 'em lit up in the dark...
I think your deflector dish is fine too - think you just need to get it seated and lined up with a hard turn.
But hey, I could be totally wrong and it's your model. If you have two just carefully open the other box and check to see if it's similar on both fronts...
They all seem to have some universal and varying "flaws"...
At this point I'm keeping the first one with the gap at least until I get the second one with the light out replaced.
I did get the reflector assembly on the first one by twisting harder than it seemed I should. Unfortunately the center spike popped off. It's in one piece so it shouldn't be hard to reattach.
