Dinky is a good bit smaller. Was it all diecast though? I thought much of it was plastic...

I bought this Franklin Mint Diecast new and I as just looking at it to compare to the pictures of the Tomy Enterprise. The thing that stands out most, besides the FM Enterprise not being accurate, is the few seems it has are all in logical locations. There are no screw holes, the Nacelles and the Secondary hull have no seem at all and the primary hull seem is hidden in the grid pattern. Why couldn't Tomy do this?

$295 in 1992 would be about $648 iin todays dollars, so Yeah, a good deal. But as I pointed out in another post, better seems and no screw holes.
It’s a good question. Maybe they committed to filler as solution and it was too late to turn back at some point
Speaking for myself, I made the rational decision to cancel because of the weak and unpredictable connection of an 8 lb. saucer, held in place by a single screw, AND an unstable base. I simply didn't want to invest $600 in a collectible that I would have to worry about. I didn't want to cancel, but I simply didn't want to add another headache to my life.

But you could have received it, not even bothered to open the box, and then turned around the same day and sold it for $600-$1000 more than you paid for it. Right now over TWENTY of them have sold on eBay with the lowest price being $1200 going up to far more than that.
To say, “I didn’t like the nut holding the neck on, so I made the quite rational decision to screw myself out of the extra $600-$1000 dollars someone would have paid me to buy it from me!”, doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. It was a bad choice. That’s the unfortunate bottom line.

How did I screw myself out of $600 when I got my money back? And I could have kept it with the intent on a resale, but I just didn't want to deal with it. And there's no guarantee on a resale anyway. If it's worth keeping great, and we could hypothecize all day. My hypothesis was, what if 8 lbs. of metal does a free fall and lands on something more valuable to me than a $600, badly conceived model.

Obviously you cost yourself the $600-$1000 in additional profit you could have made by selling it.
If you hadn’t canceled your order, you would have either A) loved it and kept it, or B) you could have made a HUGE chunk of profit from selling it if you didn’t like it. As it stands, you simply loaned TOMY $600 of your money for a year, interest free, and then just got your money back from them with absolutely no upside to you.
Look, I completely understand your desire to believe that you made a good decision on this. And I realize that nothing I can say will convince you otherwise because you NEED to believe that this was the smart move. More power to you, my Brother. Good decision.
I wouldn't get too excited yet. Depending on how many they ended up with to ship it could be a few days.

No one's right or wrong in this.
After I calmed down. Saw some videos. Saw what people were reselling them for, I made the decision to keep mine. Its diecast so it's gonna be heavy. The stand seems to do a good job of supporting the weight as long as both pieces are being used. It can also be left without the second piece for an amount of time.
Yeah they made a few mis-steps but it's still a very good looking diecast model. I just have to figure out what to do with the one my brother doesn't want. Will probably sit on it for a year and then sell it...

No explanation needed! Everyone had their issues even the people who kept theirs like me! Besides if you change your mind TOMY will probably have tons for resale from all the cancellations! If you want to buy or not buy no sweat! It's a collectible not some life saving device and necessary for everyone! : ) Really no big deal!

The top of the Saucer is plastic, and the Nacelle struts are sort of a firm rubber. Otherwise everything else is diecast. Its about 10 inches from stem to stern. I was just judging relative scale by looking at the hands in the video..

I hope some point in the future TOMY might address the whole controversy. Be transparent with the fans and let us know what really happened. I know that probably isn't going to happen but I certainly would like to know. Not for any reason other than just wanting to understand how the broken promises transpired, how things didn't workout. Not looking to lay blame just wanting to get the whole picture.
I think if they did that people would be more understanding and more likely to support future BIG PROJECTS that TOMY will offer.
