We like the fiddling!I don't know why so many people decides to cancel. I get that there are design flaws, but I know people pay a few thousand to have a professional modeler build the 1/350 scale polar lights and something like this will at most cost a few hundred to have it professionally fixed if the screw holes bother you that much. And those who thinks they can build a model that's better can just work off this and save hundreds out hours of time fiddling with lights, sanding down model kits, and applying paint. Overall I see it as a fantastic deal despite the flaws.
The whole thing is made of metal and they drew the line at the stand?? Steel is pretty damn cheap.Too much money involved with the metal stands. Plastic was used for cost and price at the end.
Shipping is not. If that entire stand is made of metal then expect to add another 20-30lbs to the weight, which means possibility 2 shipping boxes and reinforced cardboard. The whole thing is made of metal and they drew the line at the stand?? Steel is pretty damn cheap.
To do the job right the model needs to be stripped. You can’t just fill in and plug the holes. Sorry. And the lights are way too bright and out of scale. It seems lights in a model are low hanging fruit for most. Lights! Lights!! Make it brighter!!I don't know why so many people decides to cancel. Different kinds of collectors. There are those who were perfectly happy to spend $500 for the Playmobil Enterprise, so yeah, for those folks, this looks a million times better for only another hundred.I don't know why so many people decides to cancel. Me, I wouldn't accept a Playmobil for free. It looks like crap.
For a toy, even a nice one, I rarely spend more than $100. And I can accept it being "toyetic" at that level. But this started out looking like it was going to transcend being a mere toy, into a very fine replica, and $600 was indeed a fantastic deal for one. It turned out to be a really nice toy instead, and that isn't my jam, not at that price.*
For those who are into it, by all means enjoy.
*the TOMY Delorean has proven to be an exception, and even if it turns out 100% as promised, I already think I overindulged.
I don't know. I think the lights are actually closer to what they should be then the MR. The MR are kinda all blue tinted and they also used LEDS. Unfortunately everyone is gonna use LEDS now. There is no going back. Even the full scale in the Smithsonian has LEDS. (Yeah I know they mimicked the original tone of the old incandescent)To do the job right the model needs to be stripped. As someone who actually builds these things it gets irritating when it’s implied all you need to do is this or that.
Thanks.
They could have included metal within the stands (rather than being 100% metal) and that would have still probably helped a lot.Too much money involved with the metal stands. Plastic was used for cost and price at the end.

I see light kits that sells for 350 with circuit board, 250 for motor and fan blades, the polar lights 1/350 model cost over 150. Then you add photoetch/paint. Just materials alone cost more than this model.Different strokes for different folks. I saw that Delorean for instance and was not impressed at all. As for the Tomy. I don't think it looks on the level of say a diamond select toy. (Which I think are fantastic toy models) I think the TOMY is well above them. Comparing this one to say the master replicas. There are things Tomy did better than the MR and vice versa. But I can totally understand the seams and plugs being something that bothers people. But dang for $600 we WILL NOT EVER find a pre-built fully lit....nicer. We just will not. And they will all be plastic at that.....
I don't see how. You'd have to drill into it and possibly damage it.Maybe there is a way to add another screw or two also.
I look forward to seeing yours when you get it and apply these fixes.JB Weld the saucer.
Replace entire base with single pole and simple mirrored acrylic base over 3/4: Burch Plywood.
Done.
Yeah, I thought about getting the Delorean, but that car just doesn't excite me much. If Tomy was to do the Spinner from Blade Runner fully lighted I'd be all over that one. I’d be in for the refit or A for sure, and while I’d love Excelsior I think I’d want a 1/350 Reliant after the Refit.Still hoping for Enterprise Refit or A if they have learned their lesson, fix the problems, etc.
Ent E, F, and Excelsior would be awesome as well.
