Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I would imagine most who hold onto these replicas won’t regret it; the number produced is small enough that the value should hold and then rise over the years. The replica itself seems to have enough “cool factors” to justify the pricing.

I am sure that an answer for the saucer stand problem will present itself, whether that comes from Tomy or an “enterprising” third party.

I don't think anyone has sold one since the pictures came out in August
I'm not sure what you mean, except for a few in Australia (that we know of) no one has any TO sell, but as of this writing 5 are on eBay for Presale and 12 have been preSOLD for upwards of $1500.

Yes. Those 5 were sold weeks ago. Nothing has sold since the plug hole debacle....I'm just saying no one is putting any up for sale right now and we dont know how much they are gonna sell for after the returns.

Where are the windows on the right side of the saucer??. I just realized they are missing. I do realize they are not lit on the actual studio filming model. But still... tomy had they on their mock up.....(edit: forget it. I see that they are there. Just not lit. Which makes sense)

I wonder how many returns they've gotten now?

Just checked. Not yet. The email did say it can take up to 10 days. I don't see any reason for them to rush the funds back to us.
They might be waiting on the release date in the U.S. before issuing refunds, in case someone who canceled changes their mind.

Couldn't TOMY afford one more hex screw for the saucer and screws on the bottom of the secondary hull to stabilize the base? Of course not! They were so hot on their saucer separation idea, that anything outside of that was (pardon the pun) secondary!

And based on the video, I can see some serious droop over time, to the point where the ship pops a wheelie in reverse. I wouldn't display this thing around anything fragile, just in case. Nor display it where you might have some toddler traffic. You don't want 8 lbs. in freefall landing on anything important.

I asked for a refund and it was done promptly with an email confirmation and money back onto my credit card in a few days. Easy. So I don't think we need to worry or speculate.

Great video… thanks! Does the saucer section support rod and cup remove from the side stand, or is the cup attached to the stand?
The support rod is a separate piece, but the cup is, unfortunately attached to the side stand. I'm hopeful someone is able to fabricate one and offer it for sell.

Mine will sit on the carpet on the single stand. If it tips over it’s fine.
To me it’s a now a toy to be handled, so that’s where toys go. LOL Plus I’m out of premium display space these days for anything that huge. The MR gets a good spot and the prebuilt kit hangs from the ceiling.

boy the stands in that video do not look very stable even with all three of them attached. I wonder why the made the model diecast but not the stand that holds it! all that heavy weight on plastic seems to have created stability issues. that plastic really creaks and flexes.

maybe early on they wanted an elegant clear stand, but after beefing it up to the point that it's no longer very clear or elegant anymore anyway, they should have just gone for strength instead. Then the stands could probably have been more stable and with a smaller overall footprint too.

I would absolutely buy an aftermarket metal stand for this thing is somebody made them.

Isn't the concern that using the single stand will allow undue pressure on the neck of the ship given that it's only a single bolt that holds it to the saucer?

I don't know why so many people decides to cancel. I get that there are design flaws, but I know people pay a few thousand to have a professional modeler build the 1/350 scale polar lights and something like this will at most cost a few hundred to have it professionally fixed if the screw holes bother you that much. And those who thinks they can build a model that's better can just work off this and save hundreds out hours of time fiddling with lights, sanding down model kits, and applying paint. Overall I see it as a fantastic deal despite the flaws.
