Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Bummer beat me to it!!! LOL But thanks for the post anyways! : )

I love what I am seeing!!!! I know this isn't final but I THINK THIS LOOKS PHENOMENAL! OH MAN I CANNOT WAIT!

If the level of finish and detail can be applied to the REFIT, my mind will burst!!! PLEASE DO THE REFIT...and the Galileo...please. LOL

I will say this the Bussards/Nacelle globes look amazing!!!

The more I watch this video the more impressed I am. For diecast I think the finessing of details is pretty spectacular.

I remember when EFX came out with the Falcon in diecast I always thought it looked chunky and the details looked oversized. Diecast has a tendency to not be subtle and it kinda showed in the EFX Falcon.

So what TOMY did here is just really really impressive.

So I watched initially in horror as they did not mention the bonding holes on the saucer section....... and then they finally went to the secondary hull section and mentioned they would be bonded and sanded. Whew....

However I something goes south with the electronics at some point just like the MR Enterprise...extensive surgery will be required. That is not pretty..... Was anybody else disappointed with the plastic base?????? I honestly was hoping for a metal base or a resin base.... Unlike the metal clunk when the shuttlecraft chicklets were dropped on the table that plastic base sounded cheap as hell. The clear pieces that attached to the base looked ok but I could not tell if they were hollow sandwiched together or solid acrylic. Thoughts?

The big comfort for me is these folks want what we want as far as the model itself.
I'm sure the base is to keep costs down, lets face it there will be some sweet acrylic aftermarket that is better.
No power through the base like the MR needed.

I prefer the power through the base vs. batteries. However we knew that going in right? I agree with the effort on the Enterprise is key, but a better base could/would have knocked it out of the park. I believe it's cost containment 100% but damn I would have Paid another $50 more for a better base.

I too prefer a power brick to batteries. Hopefully the electronics won’t be a battery drainer once the power is off and that they endure the test of time. Things look great so far so I’m sure they got the electronics right.

As for the base I think it looks ok. Cost saving for sure, but I rather see the monies go into the ship.

Overall I like what see. The finesse and subtleties they got out of working with die cast metal is impressive. That had me worried. But TOMY so far seems to be on top of things.

It’s great that we’re getting so many updates but these guys sure need to learn how to shoot these videos. The shaky cam, panning around so fast, and the secondary hull and nacelles were out of frame most of the time. I would have loved to see more close up, slow panning details and maybe a look into the shuttle bay. I wonder how we’re going to put the shuttles in and out. I’m glad they identified some of the finish issues. That orange arc on the top of the primary hull was bad, and the grid lines made it looked like a chess board. I also couldn’t tell if it had the forward pointing little antenna on the lower sensor dome. They made such a point in the instruction sheet about how delicate that detail is, but he put the dish down on the table pretty hard.

So a lot of critique on the video quality, but thrilled with what little we saw in the ship itself. The nacelles looked sturdy and straight and man… this thing is big! I also liked the base but like others, I couldn’t tell if it was plastic or die cast. More explanation of such details would be helpful.

I’m looking forward to the next update. Maybe assembly, electronics, and how it looks on the base.

Like many here I am impressed with just the fact they got a prototype to present. I also like through the video they kept saying that's not right, but they are still tweaking and getting it right. For all of us on this purchase we all have high expectations on the whole. We also know some things may not be as grand in order to keep cost down. Overall turn out something great fans will love and appreciate. I won't point out the " Oh man really??" b/c many have covered those. I will venture to say there is more to come and hopefully they can do a side by side comparison. Prototype next to finalized product would be a bonus. My hope is that the folks doing the final paint, prep, attention to detail etc etc. Do their very best for the money being paid no one wants issues with their individual USS Enterprise when it arrives in the mail. Especially electrical problems that is a HUGE ticket item for me.

it's a nitpick and I can live with it, but the Starfleet symbol used for the base has a circle around it which is post-TOS.
I'm sure the reason the circle is there is for stability. Good solution to use existing iconography to strengthen the base. And it's still not far removed from TOS, it's associated with the same crew (and technically the same ship) in TMP. If they didn't think it needed the extra stability it probably wouldn't be there. Doesn't bother me at all.

Latest E-Mail from Tomy !

Thank you again for your support on the NCC-1701 U.S.S. Enterprise. We are really sorry to inform you of this but, due to critical revisions to the tooling the ship date has slipped a bit to October 2023. As you know, we are extremely dedicated to this project and would rather deliver an authentic and accurate replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise in contrast to misrepresenting any of the integral details. Our collectors mean the world to us and we want to deliver the best replica possible!
Speaking of details, let’s chat a bit about the color chips that we referenced for the starship! We were blessed to have received a set of paint chips from Gary Kerr, who as you know played a major role in restoring the 11-foot studio model that resides in the Smithsonian Institute. Each color is authentic to the restored studio model and we’ve painstakingly recreated every color to match!
