Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

What if Tomy actually did fill the plugs and seams and sent some to Australia witout the holes and seams filled. What if this was a ploy to see how may fans would keep their Enterprise. What if those who choose to keep their orders actually get Enterprises with filled plugs, and Tomy sells the canceled orders for more money?

Oh jeez...let's not get carried away now with conspiracy. Occam's Razor?

Humans make mistakes, especially when trying to produce what is basically an expensive toy model...

That would be nice but that wouldn't make sense keeping the big fix a secret while accepting cancellations. If they could and did fix this I'm sure we'd see (crappy) pics ASAP crowing about it. Lol

Disclaimer: I haven’t assembled a model since I was a kid.

Having said that, would it be possible to create a set of water slide decals using circular images/photos designed in Photoshop (using pics from the corresponding opposite/clean side of the ship) that aligned with each of the plug holes that are made to mask the plug hole circumference edge with what essentially would be hull material? They could be donut shaped or solid with just enough image to hide the edge. I’m guessing there are modelers who make their own decals?

You could sell as a set (a la Mike Lane Mods) or publish the pics and instructions to the community.

Downsides are you would need to avoid touching and it does nothing for the seams.

No, I’m pretty sure that they will be like the Aussie ones. There was an earlier post by an engineer that said that filling seams in a metal model would not really work, as cracks would appear later.
I more trust the fact that Tomy's update communication highlighted the plugs, and conversations with Tomy indicated these were "final"

Still not sure about the seams- loctite and baking soda seems to work for the die cast car modelers, even with the pot metal .
However I will certainly let some brave soul here try it before I do.

There will be tons of unboxing videos on YouTube in a few weeks, I'm sure.
By then I won't care cause I will have my own to unbox within hours. of such postings...

Me, too. I noticed and loved that the state that the US location of TOMY is located in is IOWA, the fictional birthplace of James T. Kirk. :)

Yep, got my address confirmation email too. But I am keeping mine. I suspect those who cancelled in the last couple of days may not be off the shipping list yet. They probably weren't expecting so many returns, so its probably a manual process to correct.

Still makes me wonder how Australia resellers got their "address confirmation" emails over a week ago if they are in the same shipping batch as the rest of us, and we all seem to get them today -- not scattered over the past week. . Still something odd going on there behind the scenes.

Never got an address confirmation email, but then it didn't go through Tomy. I think I got an email last week from Zing saying my credit card would be charged (12 Sep) and then it got shipped out on the 14 Sep.

Yes, I suspect that-- but why Australia? What if Pebbles and PhoenixBlazes hadn't been inclined to share? Or are they in it on it !?!?! ( no that isn't a serious accusation) If seems if you wanted an initial take you could just send one out - even a pre-production model - to an "influencer" - If I recall correctly Adam Savage ordered one, as did a number of you tubers. Tomy even gave an interview to one of them .

Maybe we are? (Add evil, and long maniacal laugh here).

Maybe it was regionally the fastest place to get them out there, and maybe there were more people, but they knew a few would post the news given the rabid nature of collector's circles.

I'm sure there were quite a few pieces that were shipped all over Australia. But I guess it's true what Sideshow says about their customers of their statues, in that all these kind of forums only equate to about 2% of their customer base.

I'm keeping my shipment I think, but it kind of depends a bit, Pebble Phoenixblazes does the piece seem STURDY to you? Ie the issue with the potential saucer droop it is because the material seems too soft for the scale or is it the mounting point just seems insufficient?

Definitely planning on a better way to suspend it, maybe something to hold up the saucer and nacelles.

It certainly does feel sturdy, but also extremely heavy. So, without the saucer support strut, it's more of a fear that, that the one single bolt will succumb over time, maybe months/years. Or that the support struct of the secondary hull won't be strong enough on its own to hold the forward weight. But with the saucer support strut it'll probably hold forever.

However, since putting it on the base, I haven't taken it off. So, I never exactly shook the piece while it was connected together, as I followed the instructions and bolted it together while it was on the bases.

Say it isn't so! Nooooooo........

Actually I think Pebbles and PhoenixBlazes work for the CIA - involved in a plot to get closer to a ring of bobble headed doll smugglers and are posting their models here as a way to build street cred with the targeted smuggling ring. Sorry to out you guys...

I was wondering, can it stand without the saucer support? If the one screw or bolt is the concern I will JB weld the darn thing on. I never liked the saucer seperation on the TOS. I just want it displayed like in the show.

Can you check and if it does not fall over can you post pics?

Been thinking this over for a couple days now. Just sent TOMY an email to see if I can get a partial refund on an order of more than 1 ship and just keep 1. We'll see what they say.

The contradiction is simply due to filming for television. Having the turbolift doors directly behind Kirk does not work for blocking and dramatic effect. They also had no idea Trek would become the monster that it became where people would pour over every detail.

You could imagine that the turbolift shaft is located there, but then the car moves up and off the side, behind the doors or other bridge controls to allow for other cars to go up and down, especially during an emergency.

I have that blueprint set too. I think he did as good as he could at the time, but there certainly are discrepencies, including where the engineering room is which doesn't gel with statements made on the show about where it really is located.

I always get a chuckle when people try to match movie or TV sets with models or even real world counterparts. Most of the time there are anamolies (many) - and it's usually because you have to film it and make it look good.
I agree with that idea as I have had it too. If the FJD tech manual and blueprints are ignored, I have thought that the lift pod can slide to the left and go down the elevator shaft. This allows for a replacement pod (stored on the right) to be immediately available. It makes sense that the bridge would have multiple elevator pods adjacent for quick use. And I love the FJD references and I got them when they were first published.

Oh my, who told YOU! That was classified information
Nothing that a slingshot around the Sun won’t correct, right? ;)

This one says "or best offer". I'll start the bidding at $1.00

I remember when they first showed the first sample in diecast and putting the ship back in the box it made a loud thud. That right there told me it would last over time BUT of course there are concessions they had to make with the saucer and of course the seams and plug holes.

I was looking at some pricing the other day on Diamond select ships. Ones that were like in the 10k production range. Some of them are going for well over $250 now. A small $25 plastic you. Plug holes, seams, few lights , not perfect accuracy etc. But yet they have their charm. Even the recent playmate re-release with visible screws is kinda cool. It reminds me of the Animated series ENTEPRISE.

I think over time there will be ENTEPRISE Collectors that will want these for their collections.
