Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Lots to love about this model but also lots to be disappointed about. I ended up ordering 2 of these like others...one to keep and one to resell. I'll definitely keep one but now I'm struggling to decide if I should cancel the 2nd one...ugh!

It will be interesting to see what "fixes" and/or additional things the community will come up with for it after it's finally in our hands.

If I don't cancel (I'm 50-50 right now), I'd put a stand so it can be displayed on the "good" side at the top of my list.

I'm hopeful someone with comes up with a viable (and affordable) solution.

Unfortunately, I'm not that guy...

I went back through my email archive and discovered my 2 orders were separate. I've decided to keep at least one but I'm like you on the 2nd one...50-50 whether to cancel or keep.

I'd be willing to keep the 2nd one if there were reasonable solutions to fix the screw hole plug gaps. Unfortunately I'm not sure it's possible considering the flexing nature of that zamac diecast material...but I've seen some amazing tricks and fixes from this community on other disappointing model releases.

I don’t think I’ve ever owed a collectable which was received so badly.

I’m just imagining a similar cartoon image as the one they did for those millions of dollars of Pops! that were sent to the dump.
Since I’ve decided to not cancel, I just want it to be shipped and get here before someone at Tomy or Paramount decides to take the $1.2M hit (minus the growing number of cancellations) vs whatever damage they think would be done to their brand/IP. Edit: $1.8M. Probably not.

I doubt to compensate for the primary hull support beam.
I’m going to 3d print the cup that surrounds the lower sensor dome and probe and see if the rod alone will support the saucer. I think the cluster stand is mainly designed to hold the saucer in separation mode. We’ll see.

A metal rod of the same size should do the trick.

Unless the metal rod eventually punches through the bottom of the plastic base?

But that does sound like it may be a good idea. A new metal rod and cup piece.

I doubt to compensate for the primary hull support beam.

And I for one wasn't sold on the saucer base holding up the saucer on its own. It just felt somewhat weak.

Once I screwed it together with that one bolt, I haven't yet been inclined to separate the two sections of the ship.

Haha. Well it's usually a smart move. Buy 1 to keep. Resell the second at double the price. You now ended up with a free Enterprise.

That didn't even enter my mind.

As it hasn't been like that in the statue and figure collectable market, for at least like 5-10 years now. But then again, I'm new to Starship collectables. However even licensed prop replicas haven't done all too well in the aftermarket recently.

Just got the Darkside Kirk. You won’t be disappointed unlike this adventure.

Yep. If it weren't for a lack of total space, I would've preordered it ages ago from my local retailer. To pair it more with their 1/3 Picard that I have, then this little ship.

Hell, in the unlikely situation they truly decide to take a total loss on the whole venture. They may state to customers, that rather than shipping out a product that didn't meet expectations, they decide to scrap their entire US shipment and refund ALL customers.

That might do better for their brand............ and that way my piece will be one of the few in the wild, and it'll sure to appreciate in value!

The rod could probably be reinforced from underneath. From the sounds of it, the base is hollow.

It's not so much that it's hollow? but that the bottom of the base is completely open to the air.

I was planning to do the same thing. The cup shouldn't be difficult to replicate. Might even be able to create a design that's open on the sides to not obscure the sensor dome as much.
And if the existing rod is too weak, can probably replace it with a metal one of the same diameter.

I’m not sure if this is relevant or not. But the pole is simply slotted in on both ends. There’s nothing like screw threads on it, nor do I believe it actually clips in etc.
