Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Fishing line freaks me out for this. And I got a room full of 1/18 aircraft hanging on it. This is way too heavy, fishing line ages and weakens too. At the weight this is it will probably cut into the finish ruining it. I can't see anything but heartache down the road.

Like most things, it’s fine once you get used to it and have proved it out over time. You can hang 3 bowling balls in a net with 50 lb test. I’ve had a half dozen vehicles hanging for a couple of decades now with the stuff. 1/18 Millenium Falcon, Imperial Shuttle and the like. Redundant loops on the heavier stuff serve as backups. Try to avoid sharp edges of course but the Enterprise is mostly smooth curves.

Our Tomy Enterprise weighs less than 13.5 lbs with batteries installed so not even a challenge as long as you have a solid anchor point - mine are the floor joists above the ceiling. My Falcon weighs 11.5 lbs and like I said has been there for 20 years with no issues.

The reason I backed off with the Enterprise isn’t the weight. I couldn’t figure out a way to balance it without modding the ship or adding more weight in the tail. I build and fly model aircraft (note my user name) so I’m very familiar with how to dial in CG. I hope the Facebook guy responds to my question because he obviously figured it out. But his lines aren’t visible in the video. At least not to my old Mk 1 eyeballs.

Every one I have seen so far has that light leakage. I don't think it's worth returning.
lol if you think this is light leakage you should see my Enterprise D thread for the former Eaglemoss (Hero collector) now the Deagostini (Fan home) kit. The difference here is they (the manufacturer) made zero promises and it is what it is. A Diecast model However, there is NOTHING in its scale beyond the 10k QMX or new Factory Entertainment model made by the same people. Or the masterpiece model brass version.

So I took a chance and sent my lower hull back. Paint is close to perfect on the replacement as far as I can tell but the damn neck has a little play to it when it took it out of the Styrofoam. It a bit loose.( before I put the saucer on)....anyone else notice this?? I'm not returning the thing again. It's nice and all but next time someone decides to make a diecast Enterprise this big they need to make it easy enough to where we can access the screws to tighten things up ....once I got the saucer on it really doesn't move. The stand is wobbly anyways so I guess it really doesn't flipping matter. Lol

Hey, what kind of foam/box did Tomy use to send that replacement hull to you?

Did you include the original box inside the factory corrugated shipping carton?

I did not give them the decorated box. When they sent it back they put a beat up decorated box over the Styrofoam container and then my original corrugated box. It also took about three weeks to get my replacement hull....

I didn't send any original packaging, used bubble wrap and smaller box. I hope they use something better for my replacement.

Exactly why I'll live with some (minor) imperfections. Don't want to risk an exchange and receive something with new problems...

Wonder what happened with the guy who couldn't get the deflector dish on and had the light leakage (common issues)?

Numerous responses and now crickets...

Haha. I think he got it on but it was a little loose. I don't think the deflector is supposed to be super tight. I got mine on very easy but it's has a very slight wiggle to it. Which is fine because it's easy to take off. I'm not gonna be running around with the thing. As for returning mine I'm glad I did. No paint chips this time. The neck once i put the saucer on seems fine now. I'm not sure if everyone has the problem with the neck. The first one I got i didn't really inspect it as close. It was really cold in my house yesterday as well. Maybe that had something to do with it....lol.....at any rate it's fine...

Based on the photo he didn't have the deflector on all the way...

All good - as long as folks are happy, or at least content, with their model then all is well...

My simple and not-so-elegant solution for those wanting to eliminate the large secondary stand and are concerned with saucer droop and stability.

Small window tension rod and two small felt furniture pads to prevent scuffing. Total cost around 10 bucks and that included six rods. I chose white to match the blinds. It's much less noticeable in the bright light or darkness:

Guys, I'm not sure what is going on here but I have noticed this Ebay seller seems to have an unlimited amount of these for sell. You can see a ton of them in his pics and I looked at his history and he has sold 15 so far. I sent him an email asking him where he got so many.
