Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

The bad batteries weren’t the ones that shipped with the Enterprise, were they? Or are you saying that newer batteries failed? Cause those packaged ones are just simply crappy batteries and should have been chucked when the box was opened! :)
No, I put in new alkalines from the get go, the "collector" ones are still in the box!
That said, they sure didn't last long.

Is anybody having a problem with the electronics?

(EDIT: changing the batteries seems to have fixed this, possibly batteries were run down (though really haven’t run it that much). Putting the old batteries back in caused the problem to recur. So BATTERIES…!).

After turning on the secondary hull, with the motors running, after some random period of time (less than 30 secs I guess), both motors turn off, ALL the LEDS on the secondary hull flash 3 times, and then everything turns off.

Batteries should be good (I used my own new alkalines, not the provided ones, and I haven’t really run the electronics that much).

(Lastly…this model is awesome, well worth the $$$. I bought 2, thinking I’d sell one, but gave one to my brother instead). Almost makes me want to tackle the Polar Lights refit that been sitting in the basement for a few years - though I’m realizing the cost of making that kit with add on parts, lighting, etc will probably exceed the cost of the Tomy, plus my skills probably aren’t good enough tbh. So TOMY need to do the refit…)

Mine did the same thing with the original batteries. Didn't last long at all. I put new ones in and it seems to be fine now.

I also think there may be some drainage occurring even when the lights and motors are off (there's even a warning on the instruction manual about this).

Would have been great had there been a plug-in option. Oh, well...

I think they should offer plugin if they do the Refit. It stinks having to change batteries, especially if there's drainage even when not turned on.

Agreed! That was the selling point for me. Die cast and limited quantity. I have a commissioned one that I like a lot but a 34” metal beast? Sold!
Agreed! And Me to! I have a commissioned TOS...that needs some repair unfortunately...that I love, but the diecast really adds that extra BEAST MODE you can't get from plastic! : )

Based on my testing, you may have some old alkaline batts. I got 14 hours straight out of Amazon Basic rechargeables in both sections. I posted awhile back so you can search if you want more detail.

I don’t quite understand a few of these sales. Why would someone pay $2100 when there is a $1700 buy it now? Maybe they missed it? Dunno.
Sometimes there is a starting price that is lower than the Buy It Now and people start bidding instead thinking they will get it for less than the Buy It Now asking price !

They get into a bidding war and decide they have to have it. LoL Right after this one ended another sold for $2000 and $1950.:)

Some are selling theirs for far too little IMO. One guy sold a bunch for $1399 + $45 shipping. LoL I think the going rate is $2000+ at this point.

I want to convert mine to AC power so bad, but I don't know how to get it apart without ruining the screw covers.

I think someone suggested a small suction cup earlier in the thread.
It’s going to take one of the skilled modelers to do it first and then we’ll know what we’re dealing with. I have no problem diving in and modifying the electronics but those pesky hole covers look like something I’ll ruin right away.

Me too.

For the saucer, you might want to go in via the lower dome surround, and plastic battery cover and solder to the existing battery terminals using dummy batteries to get to the lower pins. No need to disassemble the whole thing. Use tiny, tiny, wires (like core winding lacquer insulated wire), running along seems that will be obscured from the normal viewing position. The main body could do similar through the side of the large sensor assembly, then in through the plastic battery cover.

One day, some smart person might invent a remote charge receiver battery (like wirelesss charging a phone). Fittingly, you could "beam" the power to the ship without wires.

Man sorry to hear that. Well at least they seem to stay on after the whack according to the last picture. I wish TOMY would just send you one free of charge. If not to help you out who is a customer...just for PR purposes. It would only help their image especially after what happened with this campaign.

BTW love your display! (y)
Well I'm really impressed. TOMY Australia came to my rescue. Many thanks to Jeff at TOMY Australia who actually hand delivered a replacement saucer to solve my issue.
