TOMY making plastic??? Is it even possible???? LOL Man even if they do I'd still take it! LOL how about half plastic half die cast?? LOLHaha. I will be here to say....I told ya so.....ITS PLASTIC......
What is the consensus on the need for the stand under the saucer when the ship is all connected? Are people comfortable never using it? Or are you sticking it under the saucer for most of the time?

I checked with TOMY engineers that helped design the original model and they said that displaying the Enterprise without the separate saucer display stand support will not damage the model. The two pins on the secondary hull stand are strong enough to support everything by themselves. Though a little wobbly, they have the model balanced just right so that it won’t tip forward without the saucer support. TOMY told me that the stand is made of ABS which I understand is pretty tough.
I am relieved to report that mine has made it all the way to the UK (at enormous cost) without any damage, despite the UK Border Force definitely opening up the box and rummaging through it. All the sheets of paper inside are wrecked and scrunched up, but thankfully the model itself has arrived in pristine condition.
There are a couple of extremely minor imperfections, but they're the sort that you'd get on any model and they don't bother me in the least. The only slight concern is that the nacelle rotating pieces make a quiet but obvious grinding sound at a certain point of the rotation (different to their normal quiet hum). At higher speeds it stops, but I'll probably not have them spinning much in case that worsens.
Yes the plug holes are an eyesore up close, but as others have said they're not obvious from a couple of feet away, and for the money I'd say this is amazing.
So is it more a problem of the weight balance of the stand? No one is concerned of the stress on that primary to secondary hull joint over time and gravity?
My Space Battleship Yamato is just like this - main hull is diecast - top is all ABS ( too many small gun turrets to do in diecast)DiePla !![]()
If they're paying for the reship and ship of the replacement why not ?So a few days ago...I asked if it was possible to get some touch up paint for the chip on my nacelle. They asked for a photo. They want me to ship back the lower hull....and send me a replacement....that's cool and all but should I do it???

True I wasn't even thinking about replacement. Just a small bottle of paint. Lol
But I guess they don't have paint. Which begs the question.....if and when we may need to touch it up one day what do we use.... Custom mixes??

Mine make sort of a "grinding" noise too. I figured it's the norm for the model?
Isn't comparing the Megablok to the Tomy like comparing apples to oranges ?I am keeping the second stand on mine 90% of the time. The only other 1:350 scale TOS Enterprise I've had was the Megabloks one, but after about 6 months on display I noticed that the saucer had sagged at the neck by a couple of degrees under its own weight. That model seemed rock solid to me so I'd never worried about it before that, but large Star Trek models are notorious for having sagging issues. This one is exceptionally heavy for its size, so I'm just not willing to risk it. It may seem fine after a few minutes, an hour, a week, or even a couple of months. But one day down the line you may notice it has sagged, and at that point there's nothing you can do about it.
It depends what you mean. A quiet grinding noise is normal for the model, but I've seen a few videos of other people's, and none of them seemed to make the random, sporadic noise that mine makes.
I've heard MR Enterprise nacelles and saucer sag after all those years. It's gonna happen eventually. I guess everyone should do their best to postpone the inevitable. It really is no big deal using the saucer support stand every once in awhile.Isn't comparing the Megablok to the Tomy like comparing apples to oranges ?
