Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I’m surprised nobodies complaining about the Death Star in the background and the Battlestar Raptors, BB8 robots, tribbles and T2 endo arm next to it in that shot lol
We're all focused on looking for the stand and it distracts us from everything else in the shot! I did see it. It's well hidden though.

Where can I get a case like that? And if you don't mine how much was it? It looks fantastic!
Beauty! Where did u get that case may I ask? Did u have it made??
Yes, I did have it custom made but I don't remember where -- that was sixteen years ago. What I do remember is that the UPS shipping was about a quarter of the cost because of the size of the box. I expect something similar now would be $300-$400 + shipping.

Can you give me the dimensions of your case?

i'm thoroughly addicted to temu-- they've got 30" acrylic cases for $30, but I've yet to find a 36".

I noticed something interesting while watching a YouTube comparison between the TOMY Enterprise and the Polar Lights version. Every iteration of the Enterprise that I’ve ever seen has a very dark ribbed portion directly behind the Bussard Collectors on the nacelle. In every Enterprise replica I’ve owned, it’s been either a dark grey or sometimes black. On the TOMY Enterprise it’s very close to the same colour as the rest of the nacelle. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to it, but I kind of like it when it’s much darker. I might paint it a darker grey just to give it more contrast. What do you guys think?

Edit: I’ve also never seen the “Intercoolers” so blindingly white against the grey of the nacelle. Usually they’re the same shade of grey or even a bit darker on replicas and artwork. I went and looked at videos of the restored Enterprise at the Smithsonian and imagine my surprise to see that the intercoolers really ARE white/very light grey! And the ribbed portion of the nacelle IS the same shade of grey as the rest of the nacelle. TOMY got it completely right! (But it still looks strange and “off” to me because I’m used to the “wrong” colours being used in everything I’ve seen since I was a kid.)

This was one of the revelations in later years, it was always hull color. The serrations or whatever gave an appearance of being darker.

It’s always such a weird “mandala effect” feeling when you realize that I’ve been absolutely wrong for YEARS about something basic that you thought you knew like the back of your hand. ;)

OH jeez, the AMT kit was accurate to me once. LOL Everything changed. Tomy advanced the ball listening to the right expert people who had the latest definitive details from the Smithsonian effort. I still wonder about the circle bow light on top of the saucer, was it always lit?

I’ve heard two schools of thought about that. The bow light “circle” is a transparent piece of plexiglass that has apparently always been there but was once so covered over with dirt or paint that light didn’t shine out of it very well and you could barely notice it on tv.

Some say that it was always MEANT to be lit up for viewers to see but just got too dirty for anyone to realize that it was there in the original tv footage, and others say that It was NEVER meant to be lit up/noticeable and was actually just an “access hatch” to replace the lightbulb that illuminated the three deflector array portholes on the nose of the Enterprise, and that it was intentionally covered with dirt & paint so that no one could see it.

In the end the conservators during one of the prior restorations decided to clean the clear circle off and make it transparent again.

TL;DR: It’s always been a part of the 11’ filming model but I don’t think anybody really knows for sure if it was ever actually meant to be seen on television.

Interesting, I'd have been curious to hear their discussion on weighing the two options for the restoration. In my mind I've never really thought of it being seen lit on TV at all. I'll have to go over to Trek Core and check some screen caps.
