Diamond Select WOK Phaser

Anyone know if the WOK Phaser is still happening? From what I understand, Playmates has taken over the production of the Star Trek toys, but this one is still shown on the Diamond website. Is it still coming out?

DST has the WOK phaser and the TOS Tricorder. Playmates has the toy versions of the ST XI props.

Playmates only has the license for producing Trek XI toys, Diamond Select still has their license for, well... everything else.

It's listed in the Entertainment Earth catalog that came with my Tricorder. No mention of it being a pre-order, or coming soon, or anything! Just "hey, order this!"

I'm still worried on whether this phaser is still going to talk to me. I loath the concept of the "sound and voice" aspect that every store is advertising it as such.

Sequence:
/press trigger
"Khan, you blood sucker!"
*firing noise*

:thumbsdown

I agree. I really don't like the voice clips on these things. Even the ones on the comm could go in my opinion.

The new keychain comm, added a photon blast as one of its sounds. I don't know what they are thinking when they do these things.

Well, that settles it! Everything used in Star Trek can be both a phaser, communicator and tricorder!

Suggested phrases for the Khan phaser:

"Physician, heal thyself."

"My God Carol! Look at it!"

"Don't mince words, Bones. What do you really think?"

"I poured myself a drink. Would you like it?"

My votes if it really does talk...

"No flag officer shall beam into a hazardous area without armed escort."

"Phasers on stun... Move out."

"I'm afraid it's even harder than you think."

"You've managed to kill just about everyone else, but like a poor marksman you keep--- missing--- the target."

Kevin

"We've been through death and life together."
- Zap!
(Didn't need to prove it!)

"I hate inspections."
- Zap!
(Would you rather...)

"You keep missing the target!"
- Zap!
(I'm not a target!)

"You old space dog."
- Zap!
(I'm an old dog who needs to be put down!)

"What's wrong?"
- Zap!
(Well, nothing now.)

As long as they're on a button I don't have to touch I guess I'll be okay.

I just want to know why they think anyone wants voice clips on the toys. Their target market isn't that big, and no one in that target market that I'm aware of likes the voice clips, so who keeps telling them to include them?

All I'd want from a TMP/TWOK phaser, sound-wise, is some assorted beeps and boops when I push the buttons on top and a firing sound when I pull the trigger...why is that so hard?

Because these are toys not replicas. Made for kids, not "adults".

Pretty simple really.

Really? I don't get the vibe from Diamond that they think their stuff is for kids. Hell, I don't get the vibe that ANYTHING Star Trek is for kids.

They might be toys, but I think they're clearly marketed to the "second childhood" market.

:lol

Just as log as I don't pull the trigger and hear the voices!! "It's coming through now Khan' An Khaaaaaaaaannnn! :cry

Which is kind of ironic considering the past and present toy phasers made by Playmates don't have voices on them and those toys are aimed more towards kids with their simpler details and cheaper prices.

I still wish the ship lines made by Diamond Selects had the multi-button sound effects instead of the "Press Bridge to cycle through sounds!" function that Playmates unfortunately adopted.

I'd belive that about the stuff for the new movie, but I have a hard time beliving that the older stuff would even get a second look by most kids. I hate to admit it, but I really think the TOS, and movie prop toys were made for us older kids.

The Diamond Select box on the tricorder actually says these are adult collectibles- not toys. I think that is because once something is classified as a toy they have to meet safety regulations for kids. Parts cannot be removable and small enough to choke on, etc.
