Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

If med scanner does NOT spin, another inexpensive way to achieve the spinning effect is to hold the scanner in your outstretched hand as still as you can and then quickly -- very quickly -- run in circles AROUND the scanner to provide the illusion that it is, indeed, spinning.

Once you've done this a few hundred times, the room itself will appear to be spinning...and all at no extra charge.

That's awesome! :lol:lol:lol

The original prototype pic I saw had electronic sound but a thumb wheel for the spinning action ie manual spin.

You are so right about the DST TOS communicator. Some of the same "insiders" were also claiming the communicator antennae would be plastic and not metal, but they were wrong on that front, too. Entertainment Earth (it's their exclusive) did tell me, in an email a couple of weeks ago (posted earlier in this thread), that the medical scanner had a motorized spinner. Was this info accurate? Who knows.

I don't think anyone knew for sure if the Diamond communicator was going to have the spinning moire disk until they were practically in hand. And leading up to the release there were still people that had "inside" info that were adamant it wouldn't, because there's no way a $25 toy would have it.

Trekmovie.com posted an update on the TOS geological tricorder:

"During the February New York Toy Fair this year, DST announced a Geological tricorder. Plans are pending and the tricorder has not yet been scheduled, but there will be an announcement of where and how to get this edition of the role playing toy soon."

I was just thinking about this here a few days ago, and how I should start a Classic Trek shelf someday. After reading the thread, I may wait and see which Tricorder comes out on top though. :lol I'm leaning towards EE's Medical one. I'm not a very big Trek fan, but I think having a classic phaser, tricorder and communicator set for under $100 doesn't sound that bad at all....

*goes to dig up phaser thread to check and see what handle is best* :lol

might be old news, but EE has a short video of some of the sounds on their product page.

Anyway will these Tricorders be a perfect size or smaller like previous ones?

Part of the problem arises because so many things change from Prototype to Production. Even the folks that sell them, including the exclusives, dont always know what theyre getting until they get them.

Not sure where to post about DST phasers, I got the gold handle phaser & communicator (exclusive set) and bronze handle phaser. The bronze version has a more blueish color than the gold one, and the overload dial on the bronze one has a black top meanwhile the other one has it full silver.

Here are 2 comparison photos:

Wow, those are really blue! The dark handle color looks correct. I have no
idea what they were thinking with the gold one :lol

The gold was the original bronze. The bronze was the ("O' crap we made the first bronze, gold.!") bronze.

This phaser is the whore of the AA/DST line.

There's, what, half a dozen variations of the TOS Phaser? But no TNG love? I'd love a nice electronic Cobra or Dolphin, but then I also want a MkVII Tric, but I doubt that's going to happen as well. DST still hasn't gotten around to producing Reliant, and their Ent D still hasn't hit shelves.

After the Tric, though, DST will have exhausted all of the TOS hero props, leaving miscellaneous gear like Pike's laser pistol, and opening the door for TNG stuff. An electronic TNG Tric, Phaser and Comm Badge set would be epic!

After the Tric. it's TOS movie era stuff. And at the rate DST releases merch. we'll probably see TNG stuff in oh, about thirty years! :lol

Gah, I forgot the movies! They've already got the TOS-movie Phasers ready to move out, but really, how much merch could they produce? The movie props were pure fug most of the time. None of the movie Comms look anywhere nearly as good as Wah's (and the TWOK one is downright ****ing ugly) and the Trics are pretty forgettable as well.

With the exception of a Phaser or two there's nothing remarkable between TOS and TNG, so they might as well jump on over to TNG and give us something we want! I mean, really, who here wants a TWOK Comm or STIII Tric? Not nearly enough for DST to turn a profit...
