Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

Gah, I forgot the movies! They've already got the TOS-movie Phasers ready to move out, but really, how much merch could they produce? The movie props were pure fug most of the time. None of the movie Comms look anywhere nearly as good as Wah's (and the TWOK one is downright ****ing ugly) and the Trics are pretty forgettable as well.

With the exception of a Phaser or two there's nothing remarkable between TOS and TNG, so they might as well jump on over to TNG and give us something we want! I mean, really, who here wants a TWOK Comm or STIII Tric? Not nearly enough for DST to turn a profit...

I don't know, I've seen lots of people requesting the TSFS and Assault phasers, I think that those would do well. I totally agree on the TWOK comms though and also the movie era comms not living up to Wah's, That's a given.

Personally, I would like to see as much Movie era merch as DST is willing to produce. (TWOK comm excepted) After TOS the movie props are my favorites, At the very least DST will do the Phasers from the major films.(I/II,III,V) A couple of comms (II,III) and maybe a III or V tric. So, maybe not thirty years...more like twelve. ;)

I think the Dolphin phaser and TNG trics would do great buisness, providing DST could handle the amount of lights that were crammed in those trics by the time Voyager rolled around, and with TNG the comms were just pins so...I don't see much $ there beyond an initial run and you know how DST loves them re-paints! :rolleyes

TWOK tricorder, baby! :cool

With the TNG Trics they could easily release a few different versions: add a top portion for Medical, swap out the back of the Tric for the version with the removable scanner, etc.. Throw a new set of decals on there and you could make a Mark VII pass for a Mark VI. As far as the electronics are concerned, well... I'd be willing to drop $50 on a toy version of the MkVII.

The Comms could be done like the ones released back in the late '90s (I forget the company, but they produced TNG and VOY versions, along with a Klingon badge and Bajoran pin) where the badge itself was a simple plastic piece with a strong magnet installed in the back that held onto a flat sound unit worn under your clothing; pressing the Comm badge would hit a button on the sound unit and activate the chirp.

I'm sure they'll get to them eventually, just a question of when and how much. DST seems to have trouble with anything that contains more than five lights and a sound chip. I can easily forsee them being more than $50 though.

I'm not sure which one you're referring to. The only company that made TNG comms in the 90's, that I'm aware of, was Playmates and thier comm was like ten times bigger than the prop. I'm sure they could make one smaller now but I think it would have to be bigger than the original prop. Even still I don't think that those would be big sellers as their isin't much to them.

No, not the Playmates, a different company had the license to produce the pins. They were much more accurate in size (I'm tempted to say they were quite accurate) although they had chromed gold, but were nice despite their cheapness. All of the electronics were contained in a separate unit.

Wow, those are really blue! The dark handle color looks correct. I have no
idea what they were thinking with the gold one :lol

Indeed the gold one looks weird LOL, I bought because it came with the exclusive communicator, and also to use its type 1 phaser in a display with the comm and type 2 bronze phaser. Now just need to get some kind of stand for these 3: phaser pistol type 2 with bronze handle, phaser type 1 and communicator...

There's, what, half a dozen variations of the TOS Phaser? But no TNG love? I'd love a nice electronic Cobra or Dolphin, but then I also want a MkVII Tric, but I doubt that's going to happen as well. DST still hasn't gotten around to producing Reliant, and their Ent D still hasn't hit shelves.

After the Tric, though, DST will have exhausted all of the TOS hero props, leaving miscellaneous gear like Pike's laser pistol, and opening the door for TNG stuff. An electronic TNG Tric, Phaser and Comm Badge set would be epic!

I'd love some TNG stuff, being in Romania I watched TNG prior to TOS

I guess my biggest problem with DST's Trek line is that I don't like the TOS Phaser. I don't dislike it, I just don't dig it. I'm all about the Comm and Tric when it comes to TOS props, so it's painful to see all the Phaser variations but watch the Tric date be pushed further and further back.

I grew up with TNG, TOS didn't come into my life till later on, so I know what you mean.

Do you have more info about this please? Ebay is full of TNG comms but some look odd.

Let me dig it out, I had the TNG and Klingon badges. The TNG soundboard did the chirp and then had a lame voice clip, the Klingon badge had a different chirp and then a phrase in Klingon, supposedly "What do you want?" :lol

Fake Edit: It was made by a company called IPI.

This is the Voyager badge

A tiny bit of news from DST. Someone asked about the square section surrounding the moire on the tricorders shown at Toy Fair, which was inaccurately painted silver (see photo). DST responded, "Yes this was painted black in the final. The pictures where this was silver featured the first factory sample."

Sadly, another delay announced by DST. The sciences and medical tricorders are now scheduled for release on June 24, 2009.
