Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

I'm paraphrasing what one of the retailers told me months ago about there not being any more delays. He told me they would definately be released before the new movie because they have an agreement that TOS toys and new movie toys would not be released at the same time. And, if they didn't release them before the movie, they would have to wait months to do it. If that is true, my theory is the agreement is holding things back.

I have sooooo lost interest in these now.

At least PlayMates can get stuff ON THE SHELVES! They are in every store, and you don't need to wait four years to assemble the entire crew!

You know I like the merch that DST offers, their inital releases are pretty good quality wise usually...Okay sometimes, and they try to go the extra mile with details but their release schedule or lack of one is friggin' rediculous!

*Crosses fingers for a release date before 2010*

Yeah, I got burned by a fourth or is it fifth wave phaser, utter crap. I had heard about plastic lids on the comms, saw some at TRU and yup, plastic lids. Shame really...

So I guess this means the WOK Communicator and phaser will be delayed too?

Ah, you finally saw it? I've been gone for more than a week, so I've still got a few hundred more threads to catch up on.

I didn't post my own thread, but yeah I have been sniping at it for awhile now. :lol

Re the AA/DST vs Playmates thing, the AA/DST stuff is more carefully made and more accurate overall. The price we pay for that is delays and endless repaints once they come out.

I was surprised that the Playmates "role play" toys from the movie, are as good as they are and as cheap as they are, despite their problems. The action figures are total crap though.

Playmates is apparently a much bigger company and has more resources, look at the sheer volume of Trek crap which they have unleashed on the public. It's mind boggling.

So AA/DST is the underdog, they do a FANTASTIC job, giving us near-screen-accurate TOYS from 40 year old TV shows. :lol

What's wrong with them?

Well, I don't know about anyone elses but mine have had the following problems:

TRU exclusive
-Malfunctioning electronics
-loose P1 that would not stay in P2
-light bleed
-non-functioning P1 sight
And that is just the electronics and hardware, the finish is sub par overall.

The first version I had which was like the fourth repaint or wave if you will, had a few of the same problems of the TRU exclusive and, to top it off, had a quiet almost in-audible sound chip.

I've heard that the first couple of issues were really good quality wise and have gone downhill steadily ever since, my issues would seem to support that.

I have my sister's phaser from TRU here in front of me, and likewise, the P1 just won't stay in the main body. I only realy see two things wrong with the paint apps, but the P1 is annoying. You can't even pick it up and it pops up.

(Now I'm afraid to order a comm. or phaser off the internet without seeing it first.)

Same thing with mine. The P1 doesn't lock all the way into place. I was going to fix it with a small piece of velcro... but I'm out.

I just picked up two of these.
The blue one that came in the 2 pack (BTW, the communicator does have the metal lid), and the grey one by itself.
I noticed that the blue one had a bit of a problem locking down the P1, but after messing with it for a few seconds i found out all you need to do is press down hard on the rear end until you hear a little snap. Stays in place pretty good now.

I bought one of the first run phasers back when it was still art asylum and the P1 was the opposite for me.. didn't want to come out..

Now I have the other problem with it. lol
My fault in this instance though..

To me they are what they are, toys not props. Having over 300+ props in my ever expanding collection, These role play items are things to let the kids play with and to wear on your costumes when going to parties.

I'm just thankful that anyone is still producing toys from a show that has been off the air for 40 years.

:)
