Dexter

I just re-watched episodes 9 and 10 from season 2 on netflix and I'm pretty sure there aren't any names in the box. The video quality isn't the best but the box is featured pretty prominently in these episodes and there doesn't appear to be any writing by the numbers in the close up shots. Also they have to analyze the DNA from the blood to determine the identity of the victims, and only after analysis do they determine some of the samples are from known butcher victims.
I really do seem to remember seeing some names written in, though. I even remember a discussion here about it and even a few pics but I can't find it. Maybe after he gets his new box at the end of season 2 he starts writing names in?

If we find out he does write names in it post season 2, I've made a list of the victims we know of, in the order they were killed.
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
Fred ‘Freebo” Bowman
Nathan Marten
Ethan Turner
Clemson Galt
Billy Fleeter
Miguel Prado
George King
Benito “Benny” Gomez
Zoey Kruger
Jonathan Farrow
Stan Baudry
Arthur Mitchell

I've also got a list of some of his victims from the books not featured in the show. I suppose they could be used for filler.
Alex Doncevic
Alexander “Zander” Macauley
Randy MacGregor
Steve Reiker
Brandon Weiss

Maybe if we find pics we could find a close font and print it out, then go over it with an ink pen or pencil.

There were never any names in the box in the show, you're probably thinking of the fan-made box sold on ebay. There were names added to that one.

He doesn't. Not that it matters, but here's a more complete list of Dexter's victims (from the television series) and why he killed them:

First blood slide box:

Mary, a.k.a. Angel of Death – murderer
Juan Rinez – murderer; specifics unknown
Alex Timmons – sniper; specifics unknown
Gene Marshall – arsonist; specifics unknown
Cindy Landon – “black widow”; specifics unknown
Mike Donovan – raped and murdered young children
James Jaworski – murderer
Matt Chambers – drunk driver who killed at least four people
Jorge & Valerie Castillo – human traffickers who kill by drowning
Dr. Emmett Meridian – manipulated at least three women into committing suicide
Brian Moser, a.k.a. Rudy Cooper, a.k.a. The Ice Truck Killer – serial killer
Jimmy Sensio – sold poisoned potions
Little Chino – responsible for several deaths
Roger Hicks – raped and killed at least two women
Ken Olson – murderer; specifics unknown
Santos Jimenez – murderer (killed Dexter’s biological mother)

Second blood slide box:

Unnamed carnival worker - unknown
Fred Bowman, a.k.a. Freebo – drug dealer and murderer
Nathan Marten – pedophile (potential threat to Astor)
Ethan Turner – male “black widow”
Clemson Galt – murderer
Benito Gomez, a.k.a. Benny – murderer
Zoey Kruger – murderer
Jonathan Farrow – alleged murderer
Stan Beaudry - murderer
Arthur Mitchell, a.k.a. The Trinity Killer – serial killer

Other victims who should not be included in either blood slide box:

Jose Garza, a.k.a. Christopher Harlow – drug trafficker and murderer. Dexter killed Garza as part of framing Doakes as the Bay Harbor Butcher; no blood slide was made.
Lila West, a.k.a. Lila Tournay – arsonist and murderer. Dexter did not perform his usual ritual on Lila; no blood slide was made.
Billy Fleeter – murderer. Fleeter was killed by Miguel Prado, not Dexter.
Miguel Prado – murderer. Prado's death was staged to look like the work of George King, a.k.a. The Skinner; no blood slide was made.
Jorge Orozco, a.k.a. George Washington King – murderer. Dexter killed Orozco in self-defense; no blood slide was made.
Camilla Figg - Dexter killed her at her request to ease her suffering. She was not one of his "usual" victims; no blood slide was made.

Does anyone have a clear picture of dexter on his ID badge? Maybe someone can point me to an episode that i can capture his image from a blue ray screen grab?

Not yet; that's why we all created our own. I've watched the first three seasons quite a few times and I didn't find one scene where you get more than a minor glimpse of it at best, certainly nothing I could freeze-frame without motion blur.

I got it from post #78 in this thread (fifth photo from the top). I used Photoshop to rotate it and adjust the brightness a little.

Also, since I posted that photo of the ID I made I've refined it a few times--primarily I modified the photo to shorten Dexter's jawline and altered the "Florida Seal" watermark to make it a little more accurate.

Eltee,

Nice!

If you don't mind my asking, where did you find the badge?

I've been looking for one to go with the ID that Zombie_61 shared with me.

I've been working on them on and off for a couple of months. I can get the shields, but the centers are the problem. A custom die to replicate the screen seen version is cost prohibitive for a small run. What you see above was done on an inkjet printer using special sticky back metal "paper" (print media) designed for inkjets. Looks good, but is extremely fragile. Cannot be handled, put in a wallet, rubbed, etc. as the inkjet ink does not adhere well to the shiny, metallic surface. OK for display, however.

As a cop and occasional technical advisor / prop guy, I rep for a major badge mfgr. I spec them and order them directly.

My first attempt to make the badges using "in stock" centers were close, but not great. The rank banner font was too large, as well. If anyone is interested, PM me.

Here are screen caps of the shields:

Hey guys! I have a buddy who's brother works on Dexter. On his last trip to visit him he got to go on set. He knew I was a huge fan so he snagged some stuff for me.

Autographed Rolling Stone by Michael Hall and a script from season 3. Michael would not sign the script because I guess they usually go straight to eBay he said. I'm cool either way!

I wanted something extra for my display though, so thanks for all the hard work you guys did researching the Dexter ID badge. I was able to recreate my own in Illustrator from your examples. The ID photo is not even close to accurate. I had started tweaking some of the photos you guys posted and I was getting it close to screen grab. However, the closer I got to the screen grab photo, the less I felt it looked like Dexter or Michael C. Hall. I figured since my friends wouldn't know the difference anyways, I modified an nice head shot of MCH for the ID.

^ I think the photo you used for your I.D. was an excellent choice! It may not be a perfect match for the one on the actual prop, but it certainly has the "feel" of an I.D. photo and, as such, IMO works perfectly.
