Dexter

Thanks a lot Jannix for making the ID available, I've been meaning to add it to my collection for quite some time! :)

Very nice! I've also had alot of trouble finding the doll..

If anyone is ordering the hangers, I could use some help since I don't have an active paypal account. I could send a money order to anyone who could help.

I like the work you did on the badge. Looks spot on.

My only improvement would come from looking at some of the screencaps, specifically This One.

On the visitors badge they use a different color for the Florida symbols and you can see that they are in a deliberate pattern as opposed to the semi scattered look on your badge.

I made a modified background Here.

Maybe I'm wrong. Screencaps of Dexter's badge are hard to find.

That's my plan. Print it twice, cut out the headshot from 1, paste it to the other, then laminate it. I make all my Id's that way (minus the laminating usually, but for Dexter I'll get it laminated)
It's been a while since I've seen an ID card up close and personal but, with digital cameras and everything being computerized, do they still actually cut out and paste photographs onto ID cards? I would think they'd use software to insert a digital photo into a blank ID form, enter the employee data, and print it all out as one document.
:confused

Dexter's Laminate

Ok so this is what I've been slaving over in my spare time for the fast few months.

I got the initial spark after seeing Jannix Quinn's post in this thread. At first I was working on improving his version of it but I wound up rebuilding it from the ground up in my quest for screen accuracy. I figure, if it's not perfect, it's not done.

Right before I took the picture for this post I realized the seals are not the right size and the text looks black instead of blue :confused so I'll probably be trying to offload this batch. I was also thinking of making a few blown-up ones for display. What do you think? Should I do a run of these?

Re: Dexter's Laminate

You've done some great work on these!

I'd be interested in a run if you decide to sell some.

Here's some cropped out images of the ID badge from Hi-Res publicity images posted by a member here. They're grainy, but show some details.

Hey all! I did a little "fine tuning" on Jannix Quinn's I.D. and, with his permission, I'm posting it here to get your opinions and critiques. Here's what I altered:
  • Changed the fonts slightly
  • Photoshopped the photo of Michael C. Hall to make it look a bit more like the original photo--reduced the size of his head so that it doesn't fill the photo quite so much; lightened his neck; removed the highlights from his face and hair; desaturated the color a bit so it wasn't quite so bright; reworked the shirt.
  • Changed the "seal" to make it a closer match to the version seen on the Debra Morgan I.D. in the photo posted by smoxsamantha--removed the "In God We Trust" statement; added the "sunburst", the "waves" beneath it, and the word "DADE" below that (I think that's what it says on the original, because in the real world it's the Miami-Dade Police Department, not Miami-Metro). It's not perfect, since I can't quite make out the wording in the outermost ring, but IMO it's closer than the previous version.
  • Added a few "seals" in roughly the correct locations, based also on the photo of the Debra Morgan I.D..
  • Expanded the borders; surely the actual card extends beyond what is seen in the clear plastic window on the holder, and I think the extra space will make it a little easier to trim. Edit 03/18/10: After reviewing the prop photos in post #78, I've cropped the image width to be more accurate to the screen-used I.D.s.
Here's the link:

Edit 03/21/10: I've watermarked the image to make it more difficult for some unscrupulous Evilbay schmuck to take advantage of our hard work to make "his own" I.D.. If you want to use the image to create your own I.D., PM me and I'll e-mail you a copy without the watermark.

Comments, suggestions, and constructive criticisms are welcomed and appreciated.

This morning I purchased a holder through the Evilbay link posted by Howlrunner; less than four hours later I received notice from the seller that it would ship today. I hope the holder is as good as their service!

Edit 03/16/09: I modified my version of the I.D. again--adjusted the fonts and replaced the photo with one that looks a little more like the original. It's still not perfect, but it's getting there. Here's a quick shot of the original and my version side-by-side:

The distortions seen in the image is from me resizing them for comparison, and isn't present on the original in the link above.

Here is a composite I made up real quick of all of the mug shots from all of the pictures of Dexter's ID posted above.

There doesn't seem to be a gradient in the background and it looks a tad lighter than what has been previously posted.

Still working towards perfection.

Update:
I think this one is very near perfect. Maybe a different shirt.
