Dexter: Blood Slide Case

Does anybody know if these can be purchased somewhere, or were they made specifically for the production? I've seen a few that are similar, but the hinges are usually on the long side.

Try the search feature. This was worked out in season 2 on the RPF

The hinges were switched on the standard slide box.

I found that thread, the expensive box does appear to be the exact one used. So that's the end of the search for me, at least until I get some kind of high paying job.

Well, I finally got the funds together and placed an order for the slide box. I hadn't gotten a shipping email for a couple days, so I just called them and it turns out the item was discontinued because nobody has ordered one since April. They gave me the names of two businesses they supplied them to, but after calling those places I found that those places didn't actually stock them, they just ordered them individually when an order was placed. So it seems ebay is the only way to get one now, if one ever comes up. Just thought I'd post here in case anybody ever comes looking for the prop in the future.

There is a guy currently making them and I think after Christmas, I will purchase one.

For now, drool over the pics!

EDIT, added screencaps.
First Impression: The numbers printed on the inside need to be centered and I believe the box is the cheaper and more common box available, not the more expensive accurate one I found a while back (Although that one looked to have a different clasp). The box seems to have the correct clasp.

Search under "Dexter Blood" or "Dexter Box" and checked completed auctions. I've contacted the seller to see if he is making anymore and if he would be willing to make it more according to what we see on the show.

The only thing I asked was to leave the victims names blank, but overall the box looks great and is accurate. I'm actually pretty excited to get one if the seller is planning on making more.

Looks like the seller listed a BIN with free shipping but at about $75 higher than his previous auctions. Just waiting on some episodes to finish so I can cap them at 720p and do a few comparisons.

It's not nearly accurate enough to justify charging 4 times the price of the originals.

I recently contacted the seller of the the more (if not, THE) accurate box and they said that they were the original manufacture and it was discontinued.

But with the recent auctions, there was a shot of the evidence bag that holds the gloves. I managed to track down the bag that had the slide box in it.

I've been trying to find the slide box for a little while now too, and no luck whatsoever. I'm currently scouring the DVDs for reference materials to make my own. I'm going for as screen-accurate as possible as the $250 one on EBay is horribly innacurate when you look at it long enough and looks like it's badly put together (the corners don't interlock like they would on any box that you'd want to have stay together, I'll bet they fall apart there pretty quick). I will have hinge-holes drilled in the left side and putty-filled just to be pedantically accurate. My idea for the blood slides themselves was just to have a few of my friends donate a drop of blood and fill it with those. Maybe put the names of real-life killers on the labels, but I'll decide when i get there. If anyone has a good pic of the ID sticker he puts on the end of the slide I'd appreciate it muchly. Will post pics and all that as I get going on it so if it turns out well and is something I can replicate in any kind of timely manner I'll offer up a run in the Junkyard. Minus my friends' blood though.

You're in luck as I spent last week capping all of Season 1 as well as Season 2's Episode 9.

Season 1 -

Hope this helps! I keep wanting to buy the Dexter Slide box on ebay but I'm torn against some inaccurate areas.

I've been thinking about also making one for my friend and me and just modifying a stock box to look as close as possible.

As for the slides, look on ebay for "Microscope Slides Frosted End 1 x 3"

I was thinking of using the real blood approach since it's the only source that will make the prop pop. I was asking around and apparently my friend's roommate took a certified program to draw blood so I hope I can get my own blood. If not, I will ask my doctor to let me keep a vial of my own blood next time I see him. :)

About the box:

The one thing I noticed about the original box is that the top is slightly rounded. I was thinking of modding a stock box with the right clasp to be slightly rounded but don't know how to approach it (File + Sandpaper?).

The top of the box is slightly darker/stained than the rest of the box and the bottom is unpainted or left natural.

As far as I can tell, where the clasp originally was doesn't have the holes, but the side of the box has the hinge holes on it still.

On the original box, there are two metal clips that hold the paper in place.

Seen on what is believed to be an original screen used box:

And the box I tracked down with a comparison shot made by a member here:

Judging from the specs of the seller on ebay, i think it's custom made and maybe why the price is so high. I was thinking how a $10 box with some slight mods be so pricey, but the inner part that holds the slides leads me to believe the box is custom fabricated by the seller.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, thanks!

I'm gonna run over to the cabinet makers near my house after work and see if they have any extra rosewood laying around and if it turns out the slide-holders are wood I'll probably have them cut those as I have neither the tools nor skill to get that part right in one piece. I have the shapes of all the pieces I'd need drawn out, just workin on getting measurements.

That's a good idea about the doctor thing. I was just gonna have a lot of friends runnin around with cuts on their faces. Accuracy and all that, don'tchaknow.

o_O LOL
Wow theses are/were a dime a dozen down here!!!! i actually have quite a few ( my dads a Hematologist)
before my mail box gets swamped with "can i get one pm`s" let me look into this. the wooden slide box were very widely used from the early 1900`s up until mid 80`s and then swaped for plastic ones. i an sure we have a few down here but let me check my father slide colletion first and then i will look around here.
