Where? For what price? I´m waiting on your opinion regarding it. :)

Oh, wait .... i don´t want to build a Hrr ..... please tell me it sucks. :confused:lol

Here is info on the Hoth Rifle:
BlasTech* A280 (Hoth Rebel Trooper Blaster Rifle)

The new weapon has inspired me to push to do an "active project" like the old days. An active project is what we used to call a group project, sort of an organized individual build of a selected prop. Member(s) would provide key componets, like the base item, and cast/machined parts.

Right now I am in talks with a member (not sure if he wants to give out his identity yet) who has the ability to purchase these STG 44s at wholesale costs and help provide machined or cast componets needed to complete the build.

This is still in the early planning stages but if it happens, an interest thread will start in the Junkyard. Once the project starts, a new thread would start in this forum with a step to step guide to help out builders. The thread also provided others to share ideas and techniques and provide guidance for locating other items that are found or easily modified and also to show off your completed rifle replica.

Where did you pre-order from if we may ask?

From a retailer in germany...I expect these to be much cheaper in the states, as always :lol

Michael:
It´ll suck for sure...in a VERY good way :lol
Can´t say that I´m ready to build my THIRD A280, but I think I will be once the active projects starts ;)

MJF:
An active project is a great idea...ahhh, the good old days :cool

Attached is a pic of my lastest incarnation, built on a resin STGW44 I molded/ cast from my SHOEI/real STGW44 hybrid:

I am quite excited about the active project starting. Right now it appears these will be released in March. We probably should hold off starting anything till they are actually released in the event that these get pushed till later or cancelled. For the active project, it looks like the member who would purchase them at the wholesale price can get these to members at $225 shipped in the US (don't quote me on that as prices and/or shipping costs may change).

At this point, we estimate the AP would need 25-50 members involved in order to justify casting/machining of the additional parts members would need. This is where I can see a possible problem as some members might want to fabricate their own parts or use something different (such as instead of a replica single point, they may be able to locate a real one). So what extra parts that would be made available to those who have limited resources to fabricate (like myself) may be in question.

Update!!!

I finally received one of the first STGW44 replicas by Denix.
Overall it´s a nice piece...
- The details are a bit softer than on the original
- It has the Denix-typical "surface marks", which are present on all Zamac-cast items I´ve seen in the past
- It has a nice heft and feel

BUT at least my rifle shows a slight curvature to the right, looking down the barrel from the rear sight :unsure

I don´t have an idea, if that can be fixed or not....I´ll give it a try asap.
I´d still recommend to go for it. I paid 209 Euro for mine incl. s&h but I´m sure the prices will go down once the price-competition starts :thumbsup

Are you sure it's not that version that fires around corners? :lol ;)

If you have a vice with soft jaws on it you could try sticking the barrel in that and gently bending it.

DAMN!!!!...I ordered the wrong one :lol

It´s not just the barrel IMHO, the whole front section (Gas tube cover, handguard and barrel) is slightly curved to the right.

I´ll take a pic later tonight.

The barrel issue could be resolved!

I disassembled the front section and took off the covers...then I "gently" bent the curved barrel until it was straight.

Wait...BULL****!

I actually hammered the crap out of it with a hard rubber hammer until it got somewhat straight. BUT hey, result counts riiight!? :lol

As far as comparing it to a BB stgw44...
I own both incarnations and for a possible blaster conversion I´d prefer the Denix as it features the correct left side grip and safety switch, which is not present on the airsoft. If that´s NO problem for you, go with this one :thumbsup

Maybe I´ll be able to post a straight comparsion of both rifles.
Currently I own the following STGW44´s:

- real/ SHOEI hybrid
- Airsoft
- Denix
- Diecast

Markus

btw: Prices are down to 180 Euro here in Germany :)
