Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

What sealing and priming methods are you using?

stevie, put it on and get some photos of you wearing it up. its great to see builds at this stage. Well done for completing. Are the thighs as dificult as people make out? What is actually dificult about them?

Just been lathering it up with PVA, then using normal grey primer from the local Pound shop (UK). I'll probably need to use plasti-dip, but that stuff ain't cheap.

@7sinzz... I'm not even gonna try on the suit until i've shed the xmas weight i've already started to put on, so these will have to do for now...

They're from a couple of weeks ago when i'd just finished the top half. I'll put more up in the new year! :D

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

everything looks good but I do have one nitpick, that helmet looks out of place with that awesome suit of armor. Looks too blocky. I think you should pep the helmet and resin it at least.

I already have one half way through the bondo stage. i did that before i started making the suit. the foam one was thrown together so i had something to go with the armour for now.

Ahhh! That looks ace :) I been gettin my bird to do the modelling for my photos lol. Didn't realise they sold primer in the quid shops, will have to go n have a look :) Plastidip is really expensive. Let me know where ya get ya paint too. Im thinking I'll probably end up going to hafords but I'd rather not pay their extortionate prices.

Yeah, i'm in Scotland and most of the pound shops do'em. An artist friend of mine has been recommending acrylic medium instead of plastidip (Building up in thin layers) to get rid of the foam texture, and apparently its fairly flexible. Gonna have to experiment.

Also, re. the thighs... they were difficult, but the difficulty lies more in making the two of them the same as each other rather Than the building of them individually. i.e. even any small mistakes need to be replicated on the opposite thigh. I found it easier to attach the templates for the "sides" of the thighs before drawing on the foam. there seemed to be a few pieces that joined together anyway, so it made more sense to make them in to one big piece instead of a few smaller ones glued together... if you know what i mean.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

I am having a hard time finding 5-8mm foam that isn't a dollar per piece(9x12) I bought some 3mm stuff to practice the glue seams and make theneck seal. Went well. Just curious were else one could get the foam roll posted in a previous page. I have checked Sears target Walmart jo-anns micheals home depot lowes (no Kmart in my area.) Haven't checked biglots yet also haventgone that way yet(only 2 leftaround here.) Salvation army place and army navy. Also tried play again stried. I just don't have the 50-60 that itwould take to make the suit atm and it would takea few weeks forthem to get more(they got roughly. Sheets) the foam flooring with thefingers. Can't find that either. Harbor freight is a hour away. I live in St Pete FL. And for some stupid reason no placeihave gone to has anything that would work. Only matican find is a yoga one but its wavy on both sides.

Nomatter what thx for the foam files...

PS sorry for punctuation typing on phone.

Same here, I've been searching in the same locations you've mentioned with no luck except for the thicker 10-11mm types...BUT FINALLY...I just came back from last minute X'mas shopping with the wife and found this ellusive 5mm foam sold by the roll at BIG 5 Sporting Goods. The exercise mat itself is on sale for $21 and is measured to be 46"x93". Here's a link to what I found: Big 5 Sporting Goods - Weekly Ad Specials=

So, Merry X'mas and hope you find a Big 5 near you. :thumbsup

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

For what its worth, i used 8mm thick foam throughout my suit and would been happy to use anything up to 10mm. i found it easy to work with, more keen to keep it's shape and with a little creative cutting allowed you to avoid having to cut/stick alot of annoying little parts, with excellent results, just l ook at xtobot's build with 10mm foam. i personally found anything less than 8mm to be too flimsy

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Merry Christmas everyone!!
Man, i got stuck with the foam build, irealy tryed to build the helmet with foam but i´m to stupid with that i think.

i dont know if the pep/foam files are to big (scale) for me or if i´m to stupid for bring the parts together.

i figured out that some of the pieces have to have a 45° cut bevor glue them together but what pieces has to have this 45° cut. please can somebody explain!?!? Cause the material (foam) is so expensive for just try and error...

and could you tell me how to finish the product when it´s done?
i mean, a finished helmet, and then.... just plasti dip or something else, how to paint or what ever....

my english is not that good so sometimes i have some problems to find out what are you guys talking about in all that treads and posts.

Thank you guys
Tom

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

You must constantly reference the pep program while you are building your piece. If you notice that 2 connecting pieces run smoothly into eachother then u do not require a 45 degree cut. If u notice the 2 connecting pieces have a corner then you require the 45 degree edge.. I advise only doing the 45 degree cut on one of the edges thought... unless the connecting corner is approximately 90 degrees average the do a 45 degree cut on both connecting edges. Please notice there are occasions where 2 edges bevel outwards rather than inwards. This is rare. But does occur. I cant explain a particular occasion off hand, but you will know it when you see it. Just constantly reference the pep program and use a bit of logic. I also suggest cutting certain parts slightly longer than the part they connect to so you can glue them underneath, creating a lip. Reference the silver parts on the biseps.

Here are some update progress. I still have to do the gauntlets and the suit will be 100% complete :)

Then comes the hard part, sealing and painting :lol
Tell me what you think about it guys !

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Thanks man, took me a lot of time to get there x) Any pics of your helm ?

I think i'll go with stealth pva glue methode, i don't want to spend to much on a suit i will wear only one or two times in a year.
I did it mainly for fun and hope you'll do as well.
